About
Most students say "I'm fine." Kowala gives them somewhere to say what they actually mean.
Kowala is a student wellbeing and social-emotional learning app for middle and high school. In under two minutes a day, students name how they feel, learn a skill they can use in real life, and build the habit of noticing what's going on inside, guided by a koala who never rushes them.
WHAT STUDENTS CAN DO
Daily check-in: name your feeling in seconds, no long survey
Breathe with Kowala: guided breathing and grounding for hard moments
Private journal: write it out, keep it yours
Skill moments: short, practical lessons on stress, focus, friendship conflict, and self-talk
Mood over time: see your own patterns, ungraded and unjudged
BUILT WITH STUDENTS, NOT AT THEM
Kowala was co-designed with students in real school pilots, alongside licensed clinicians and school counselors. Every screen was tested with the young people meant to use it. Nothing here is a worksheet in disguise.
FOR SCHOOLS AND COUNSELORS
Kowala supports school SEL and student wellness programs with aggregate, school-level insight rather than individual surveillance. Counselors see trends that help them direct their time. They do not get a feed of student journal entries. Kowala is designed to complement existing MTSS and SEL curricula and to fit the funding schools already have.
FOR FAMILIES
Kowala is not therapy and does not diagnose anything. It is a daily practice that helps young people build language for their feelings and skills for hard days, which makes it easier to ask for help when they need it.
PRIVACY FIRST
Student journals stay private. We do not sell student data. Kowala is built to meet school privacy expectations, including FERPA and COPPA requirements.
Kowala is made by MindZen, a company built on one belief: students will tell you how they are doing, if you build something worth telling.
Kowala is not a medical device and does not provide diagnosis, treatment, or crisis services. If you or someone you know is in crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis line such as 988 in the US.
