About

Läxi puts one word on your home screen each day. That is the whole idea. The widget is not an add-on, it is the product. You see the word while you are doing something else, and over a few weeks that adds up. BUILT TO BE QUIET No streaks. No notifications asking you to come back. No counter that resets and makes three weeks of work feel wasted. If you skip a day, nothing is lost. Words you have started learning come back when they are due, and that is all. SIX LANGUAGE PACKS Swedish from English or German Spanish from English or German English from German German from English Each pack covers A1 to C2 and is ordered by how often a word actually appears in real text, so the first words you meet are the ones you will meet again. EVERYTHING STAYS ON YOUR PHONE No account. No sign-up. No server. The app makes no network requests at all, which is why it works on a plane, in a tunnel, and abroad without a data plan. Your progress never leaves the device. SPACED REPETITION Läxi uses FSRS, an open scheduling algorithm, to decide when a word is due. Words you find easy come back rarely. Words you keep forgetting come back sooner. OPEN DATA The language packs are built from open dictionaries and corpora: Wiktionary, FreeDict, Tatoeba, the Swedish Kelly list, Folkets lexikon. Every source is named inside the app under Sources. Nothing was taken from a commercial dictionary. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO YET Swedish has fewer example sentences than the other languages, roughly two thirds of entries rather than nearly all. The open sentence collections simply contain less Swedish. We would rather say so than let you discover it. Läxi is Swedish wordplay. Läxa means homework, lax means salmon. Hence the fish.

Search the dictionary You can now look up any word, in either language. Searching for "friend" finds vän, and inflected forms work too, so "vänner" finds "vän". Pick your level when you start The first screen now asks how well you already know the language. Beginner, intermediate or advanced, and you can change it any time in Settings, where all six levels are available. Report a wrong translation Every word now has a way to tell us when something looks wrong. It opens your mail app with the details filled in. Nothing is sent automatically, and the app still makes no network requests. Better example sentences Thousands of example sentences that did not actually contain the word, or were not sentences at all, have been removed. Fewer examples, but the ones that are left do their job. Fixes Words no longer come back after switching languages, and the app no longer forgets which words it has already shown you.
