Better apps out there

Doesn’t teach basics or even basic theory, it’s nothing like duolingo, limited phrases and words. Not the best Te reo Maori app I’ve downloaded

Response from developer

This app is designed to give beginners the skill to speak and recognise around 250 key words and phrases which is similar to how we all started learning our first language. It also includes audio from Maori speakers, pronunciation practice and memory-boosting games. We understand the scope of its content does not suit your needs but, as a cost-effective starting point, we feel it offers very good value for money. If you would like pointing towards more Maori learning content, please contact hello@utalk.com and we’d be happy to help. Wishing you well with your language learning.

Poor

It’s pretty basic for how expensive it is, and some of it isn’t correct. Would not recommend

Rubbish app!!

I'm half kiwi and so I decided I wanted to learn the basics of Maori, I downloaded this FREE app. Tried it out and it was so terrible I wish I hadn't wasted an hour trying to use it! Then deleted it straight away! Next thing I know is I am getting my apple invoice and they are charging me £9.99 for this app that I didn't even have downloaded longer then an hour!

DONT IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BUY/DOWNLOAD THIS APP,

I wish I could rate it no stars......

Kia Ora

I hear my daughter play on this app all the time and she loves it.
The best Te reo Maori app I've downloaded

Utalk Maori

Good app, but for the price deffs needs more content, needs upgrading all the time like other apps.

Great learning tool

With a new Maori whanau I needed to pick this quick. Helps me to teach my baby too!

More content

Great app for learning numbers, colors and body parts but it does not have good content that is needed when learning a language.
PLEASE update the app to include how to introduce yourself and add in more words for people living in NZ.
Otherwise it's not good value for money

Okay

Expected a bit more for the price but still a pretty cool app. Lots of fun ways to learn.

Not quite what I was after

I'm learning Te Reo, am based in NZ. This app has very basic but not very useful phrases, like where can I get a taxi, how much is this... all well and good but NZ is predominantly english speaking, most people don't want to learn te reo to communicate with people on the street to find places. I wanted to learn to introduce myself, and start basic conversations.
Good for learning colours, numbers, and body parts, , ok games but overall not very good value.

fantastic

I remain astonished by the ease of use and how fast you can get to get you to understand.

Good app

Good app but it could be better if you added more content please. I've reached maximum scores already and my brain wants more.

uTalk Maori

Nice app & a great concept- but for the price would expect heaps more content. Still, it's well laid out, easy to follow.

Great app!!

Great 2 kinds of voices to speak to you and it's easy. Only thing they could do is add a way to search words. Good app!

uTalk Maori

Great learning tool, however it needs to have more phrases and words for the money spent

A useful (although limited) introduction to spoken and written Māori

It was a surprise to see the first App Store Maori language tutorial come from eurotalk. The sample screens are identical to those for the many other eurotalk apps, so could this really do te reo Maori justice? Fortunately, the answer is yes. This clearly isn't a comprehensive tutorial, but it does exactly what the app description says, and it does so well. You'll pick up some useful words and phrases, but won't learn very much about the language structure. The pronounciations sound "right" and are spoken with the expected expression. The phrases are smooth and words sometimes run together, as they are meant to. This app uses proper recordings with nothing sounding computer generated. The only shortcoming is that I wish there were many more words and phrases. The design of the app is very nice, with slick, sharp graphics. I'm guessing that some people will find the totally generic nature of the words and pictures to be at odds with how language and culture cannot be separated, but the same objection will apply to all these apps. Overall this is a useful spoken and written Maori learning tool. The only thing stopping this exceeding 3 stars is that the content needs expansion. P.S. The app does display macrons, but curiously the App Store review will not accept them (except for in the title of this review).
