great but it needs more
This is by far the best English->Slovak teaching app that I've found, and I've tried most of them since I'm dating a Slovak woman now. :) I just wish there were more words and phrases included. There are some common phrases/questions that aren't in there, like "how are you doing today?", "you look pretty", or "I love you". There are a bunch of dictionaries and translation apps, but I would much rather learn by using an app like this.

Great for beginners
I have learned numerous words in a few hours. The games are generally fun. The association between clear pictures (not "What does this picture show?" like I have seen with some other apps) and words makes it easy to learn.
There is also a feature that allows the user to slow down the pronunciation of the Slovak words, which is extremely helpful. Also, each word is pronounced twice - by a woman and by a man. I find this very helpful in hearing two different vocal ranges say the same word.
What I don't like is the "hard game" that is based on memorizing the pictures shown and then remembering them when the words are called afterwards (like playing memory while learning a new language). I find this to be the least helpful game as I am usually trying to memorize the pictures in English and then remember them when the Slovak words are called afterwards.
I would like to see more words and some games that require me to recall the Slovak word on my own and eventually to spell it. It is great that I can recognize many words, but there is a difference between being able to recognize the word and to be able to recall it when I need it.

Men and women
For those who would like to hear both male and female pronunciations just tap the word for a 2nd time ;)
Great for those essential words.
Great for picking up the basics and the combination of words, sounds and pictures is really helpful. And if you're really stuck, you can just whip out your phone and point to the pictures. An option to use just male or female voice would make it 5 star.

Nice app but very basic - only 9 categories ok for a two week hol but i wanted more phrases than were provided.
Excellent app
This app is designed for beginners to learn basic vocabulary. It doesn't cover grammar or genders but we found it useful for learning words.

This ap has clear photos, and nice variety in the games and levels. I need more basic vocabulary and phrases, though. Keep adding more words!

it's a great elp I had no problem in my trree months in Slovakia, very useful for all kinds of situations.
good for total beginner
I already speak fairly good Slovak and was looking for an app to improve my grammar and increase my vocabulary. For 10 bucks I expected a whole lot more out of this app but found it's very limited and only good for someone learning first words. I really wish I could get that money back.
I'm a bit bummed out!
I haev just started to learn Slovak and a couple of months ago I bought the CD-Rom which this is based on and now I find it on the apps store! It's great to have something to look at whilst listerning to the Slovak and I'm sure it will be a useful add as I learn the lingo. I would, however, like an option to to have the male or female voice only. But if you're learning a foreign language this series is certainly a useful study aid.
