FIVE NEW GAMES • Word Search — find the words hidden in a grid of letters. Pictures tell you which words to look for, or switch to Challenge and find them with no clues at all, against a clock and a set of lives. • Word Forge — spell the word from a rack of letters, in any of five languages. • Letter Drop — catch the letter the word begins with. • Line Them Up — put the pictures back in the right order. • Add It Up — the number is given and the baskets are not. Which of these add up to seven? Fifteen levels, from five up to twenty, and usually more than one way to get there. HOW TO PLAY Every game opens with a card saying how it is played, in two or three short steps written to be read out loud. It is there again behind the question mark in the corner whenever anybody needs it. MORE OF EVERYTHING ELSE Forty-five new cards across three new decks — Clothes, Jobs, and Plants & Nature — bringing the library to 346 cards in 23 decks. LEVELS THAT UNLOCK Word Search and Word Forge now open one level at a time, the way Memory Match and Line Connect already did, so there is always a clear next thing to play. FOR GROWN-UPS The Adult setting can be switched on now. It opens Word Search's Challenge ladder and sizes the boards for someone practising a language rather than learning their first words. NO MORE ASKING TWICE Sound Match, Odd One Out, Big or Small, What's Missing?, Letter Drop, Line Them Up and Add It Up used to deal each question on its own, which meant the same kiwi could come up three times in one sitting. A round now works its way through the deck: every question is a new one for as long as the deck can manage it. LINE THEM UP IS A TAPPING GAME NOW The pictures sit on a shelf along the bottom and the boxes are above them. Tap a picture to send it to the next box; tap a box to send it back. Smallest first or biggest first is written across the top in two words, and the round finishes itself when the last box is filled — no dragging, and no button to read. Every picture is named underneath it, so the game teaches the word as well as the size. QUIETER IN THREE PLACES Sound Match no longer repeats the word after you tap the right picture — it had just said it. Pop and Count finishes on the number it counted up to instead of naming the thing afterwards. Add It Up no longer reads the sum back over the top of the chime. FIXES Bigger pictures on the flashcards, especially on iPad. The tab bar no longer sits over a game in progress. Letter Drop is translated into all five languages — it had been shipping in English everywhere. The new games sit at the top of the home screen instead of below the fold. Pictures you tap are square now, in every game and on every ladder, so a board looks the same on a phone as on an iPad. Big or Small only offers the decks it can ask about — a colour is not bigger or smaller than a letter. Letter Drop and the level screens have the app's own background behind them rather than black. Running out of time on Spot the Object now offers the next deck as well as another go. The Word Search tab has its own icon instead of a grid that looked like the Memory one.
