About

Legible makes every website easier to read. Websites are designed on big screens and read on small ones. Captions shrink to 11 points, body text turns pale grey, lines are packed tight and columns are justified edge to edge. Safari's page zoom makes everything bigger, layout included. Legible fixes the text itself, and leaves the rest of the design alone. OUT OF THE BOX Install it, switch it on, and two things change on every site: • Text smaller than 15 points is raised to 15. Headlines and normal text are left exactly as they are. • Faint grey text is darkened just enough to pass the WCAG AA contrast check. The hue stays: a pale blue link becomes a readable blue link. That is all. No restyled pages, no new look — only the parts that were hard to read, fixed. WHEN YOU WANT MORE • Text size from 80% to 200%, on top of the minimum • A minimum size of 14, 15, 16, 18 or 20 points. At 16, iOS also stops zooming the page when you tap into a form field. • Line spacing, letter spacing and word spacing — applied to running text only, never to buttons, menus or prices • Fonts: System, Serif, Rounded, Atkinson Hyperlegible (designed by the Braille Institute for low-vision readers) and OpenDyslexic • Bolder text, no justified text, underlined links • Presets: Comfort, Large, Clear and Dyslexia, one tap each SITE BY SITE Give any site its own profile from the extension's popup — larger text on the news site you read every morning, the dyslexia preset on a dense wiki — or switch Legible off there entirely. CAREFUL BY DESIGN Icon fonts keep their icons. Code keeps its monospace face. Text that a site hides on purpose stays hidden. When you also use a dark-mode extension like Nocturne, Legible leaves contrast to it. PRIVACY No servers. No accounts. No analytics. The fonts are part of the app, so nothing is downloaded from anywhere. Nothing about the pages you read leaves your device. Legible is a Safari extension, so after installing you enable it in Settings, Apps, Safari, Extensions. The app walks you through it.
