Now want users to pay a subscription for news they just lift off of social media pages without paying the person that originally posted it as well as majority of ‘articles’ just adverts they are getting paid for to push from online stores. Uninstalled.

Seriously £5 per month 😂. Also if you don’t pay you can only read 10 very poorly written articles. It’s the same price as Netflix. What a joke.

Why is everyone trying to make money out of this before this update Leicester live was good now too many premium stories on app get rid of it , I know thing have to change but this is a step to far will be deleting this app from my phone unless you change it back to what it was before .!!!!!!
A drive to premium ahead of news
The forced introduction of PREMIUM makes this app and local news publication close to unreadable/unusable. Today 5 out of 6 news stories are locked unless you subscribe. Articles that were available yesterday and now locked away. I expect this will be the end of the local news app for me and many others

Constantly freezes
Constantly freezes when trying to scroll down a story.
Processor heavy
By that I mean that it drains my phone battery and causes the phone to heat up to an uncomfortable level. No other app on my phone does that. I can watch live television, a film, listen to streaming music, whilst reading e-mails. Nothing gets the phone as hot as this app. It is even worse after the latest update (26/02/2020). I don’t know if the constant deluge of adverts, which keep repositioning content on the screen is the cause, but the app does not seem to reserve containers for content on the screen. It just resizes as the content comes in. That is most probably the way the back end is written. Apart from that, it is handy having local news and local traffic notifications come in. Comment update 03/11/2020 I’ve just removed a star. After several updates it is still sucking the life out of my battery. Even when in the background. The main reason I’ve dropped a star, is because now, when I tap on comments, it’s pot luck if I can see comments or just a blank screen. In fact just now I went to comment on a news item, I’d typed in around 40 words and the screen just disappeared. It went blank. White in fact. It makes no difference if it’s set to normal or dark mode, within the app. Instead of improving the app they’ve made it worse. Please,’please, please get some professional and competent software writers on to this.
Update: 11/08/2021. I have had a new iPhone for a while and I have to admit that the app worked a lot better on this phone. It was obviously not designed to work properly on older phones.
However, since to last update 05/08/2021, there is a niggling fault that some pages, when I start to scroll towards the bottom, the whole app freezes, just before the next section of articles come fully into view. The only solution is to shut down the app and then restart it. It will keep freezing on that page until the page changes. Other topic pages may or may not be affected, so it appears that it is the content conflicting with the app.
As such I will leave my rating at 2 stars.

Previous comments above have been resolved. However, there are new issues.
Since the update, text input is a pain. The edit window remains as one line and the return key now does nothing. One could format one’s comment with paragraphs, but now that has been removed. Also when trying to position the cursor back at the end, after making an edit, it is too easy to post the comment before one is ready to. A few updates ago, it was possible to edit a comment before posting. In fact, one was told that it didn’t meet guidelines when one tried and could then make the necessary changes to allow it through. Sometimes it was just a case of rephrasing.
One other issues I have. If I touch a photograph in an article, sometimes, instead of opening full screen, it opens as an overlay window, which then necessitates closing the app down and then reopening.

Really!
This review is about the recent update Sept 2024. Not sure what bugs you fixed. Before this when I went to view comments the page kept moving opening about 5 times, now it doesn’t stop. Basically it feels like my phone is swiping through the pages when it’s not. I can’t read the comments at all. If you are going to update, things should actually improve!!!

Why is the Tigers section rarely updated. E.g. not even a mention yet of the new hard coach!
Also, can you clean out old stories I.e. those over 2 weeks old. Some date back to Christmas!!

It used to be ok for free but now you now only get to read 20 stories before you have to pay. If the journalist were competent I’d probably consider it but most are completely illiterate, they just copy and paste complete lies from other websites. I used to read the football column but it’s full of planted trolls who just cause arguments and as soon as anyone react you instantly get your comments removed (the planted trolls never get removed though 🤨).

The new Leicester page is awful old news days or weeks old no discovery pages to go on to other areas thinking about deleting it.

I recognise that this paper is owned by a multinational organisation and is in part no longer local….
Whilst there’s articles about local issues, health, politics and awards, the sports page could be improved and in particular the Leicester Tigers page….
The Tigers have been a major part of Englands success over many years. The Tigers as a club side are I would suggest possibly been the most successful English club side.
In the recent World Cup, Leicester provided 12 players across 5 countries, with the winning points in the final coming from Pollard…
Yet look at the Leicester Tigers page….

This one is a big release
That’s what the latest update starts with. What a pity it now doesn’t work on iPad. When I open the app, it notifies me it’s configuring the app then the first page flashes open for a fraction of a second before the app crashes. I’d sack your developers for lack of testing prior to release. A week since notifying the developers of this app not working, it is still not working on iPad 7th gen using iOS 16 Well IPadOS 16.1 came and the app actually opened. But quickly shut down on at least two links so no better. I know that you rely on advertising, but the extent you include needs to be such that the basics work or the app is useless. This is essentially a news app after all. Keep this up and I’ll go back to buying a paper copy as it’s a joke at the moment.
This app goes from worse to laughable. If you try to open any comments on an article all you get is “oops something went wrong”. The management of this app need to get to grips with its computer coders as they don’t seem able to do simple things. Perhaps the problem is that instead of being an app that delivers “News” to its users, it has become an app that forces unwanted advertising to such an extent that the people trying to stitch all the different advertising feeds together can’t cope with too many sources using different coding techniques. Go back to basics and deliver the news well and add advertising back in when you have a better way to deal with it causing such errors. If you don’t you’re in danger of losing all your users to other apps with better developers.
