Does Nothing

Can’t find what this app is supposed to do. I thought it was a way to identify moths and butterflies. It does not appear to do that. Could not figure out what it is meant to do.

This app needs community!!!

I love the features of this app, It took a few minutes to navigate but once I figured it out it was very easy to work. I think that there should be a way to message other users and create conversations about moths, it would be nice to talk about my passion with other people who share it! Other than the lack of community it’s a pretty good app, it could be a bit more polished but overall I would give it a 4/5. It’s the only app like it out there so it will do :))

Fast, Accurate & Fun

This app does exactly what it says and does it well, plus adding your photo to the field guide is fun, as is viewing the photos of others.

This is the real deal. I tried other apps that couldn’t correctly identify a clear photo of a Pearl Crescent Butterfly and still had the audacity to hound you to buy their premium version. Don’t waste your time with other apps; stick with Leps.

Cannot sign up

Installed it, but there seems to be no way to sign up? Just two empty boxes, username and password, if I enter what I want my info to be it says failed. The keyboard seems to be hiding buttons below it but there is no way to make my keyboard disappear. They flash for a second when I restart and exit the app. There is a forgot password option, but I have never signed up yet, so that is useless to me. Maybe it is a bug with the mini iPhones? I was generous and gave 3 stars even though I could not access the app.

Small problem

I used this App for several months now and it did a great job thanks.

Love it!

Edit! I somehow missed the fairly obvious “iNaturalist” slider when submitting new images! I’m editing my observations now and they’re immediately showing up in iNaturalist. So, never mind!
I’ve loved this app for a few years and it is still my go-to for unknown moths, but it doesn’t seem to be syncing my observations to iNaturalist anymore? I’ve switched the sync “off” and back “on” and entered my iNaturalist login again, but there are still several moths in my LepSnap account that don’t show up on iNat. I searched online & on fieldguide.ai for help, but I actually couldn’t find any mention of iNaturalist. Is that function maybe being phased out? Thanks for the great app, regardless!

User hostile.

Was immediately met with a login prompt. There was no way to access the app without providing them information beforehand. Deleted the app.

Excellent for moth ID

Hands down the best app for moth ID. Whatever the algorithm is, it’s amazing and is getting better through the years. Leps returns the correct ID probably 95% of the time with a decent photo, and if you’ve used any other plant or animal ID apps, you’ll know how impressive that is.

I recommend this to new moth enthusiasts all the time, so much easier and more enjoyable for novices than thumbing through a field guide or using a taxonomic key. Thanks! Keep it going!

Best Moth Identification App

Okay so I NEVER review apps but this one deserves a great review. It is so easy to use, and the image ID system is extremely helpful. I can almost immediately identify moths and butterflies with a quick photo. As an aspiring entomologist, I’m having a great time using this app and learning more about the insects around me.

Best Leps ID

Just love it

Leps by fieldguide

Stunning collection of butterflies and moths. The best feature is its you upload a photo and it identifies the name and group of the butterflies or moth. A must for a beginner. Simple to use

Love it!

Just accidentally found this app when googling for a replacement app for the Audubon app which is no longer being updated for IOS 11.x.Highly recommend this one.

Keeps getting better!

This is a fantastic app for IDing, logging, and discovering species of moths and butterflies. The developers are constantly updating the app with improvements and fixes.

Response from developer

We're sad that you couldn't load the app :( We know the cause...certain Internet Service Providers had blocked our domain name (fieldguide.net) because that domain was blacklisted by several security sites due to poor behavior of the previous owner of that domain name. We didn't realize that until recently and now the domain is whitelisted with all the major security sites. We have also since moved the apps off that domain so the new version should work on all wifi connections. This is more background info than you care to know, I'm sure, but wanted to explain the issue. Again, sorry that it didn't load for you!

This app is straight 🔥

Moments after downloading this app I was floored. The app has an impressively smooth, well-designed user interface all while being incredibly intuitive and easy to use. This app is really the future of citizen science and can be useful to people from seasoned experts to novices who've never identified a butterfly in their lives.
If you have any interest in learning about butterflies and moths get this app. It must've taken a huge effort to create this app and it really shows when you use it.

Sweet, thanks so much for the great feedback :)

LepSnap

Love it so far....I am just using it to help ID Leps that I photograph to post to iNaturalist and have found it to be amazing in pointing me in the right direction, even though I live in Nicaragua......

Thanks so much for giving Leps a whorl! Did you see that you can actually publish directly to your iNat account via our app? We now support full iNat integration. In order to do this, tap on the gear icons in the footer bar right before you publish something new...there you will see a switch you can turn on to cross-publish to iNaturalist. This will prompt you to sign in to your iNat account (which we remember for next time) and when you publish on Leps, it would immediately cross-publish to your iNat account. Cheers :)

Extending worldwide

Wonderful app, but would it be possible to extend it worldwide? It has no way for me to add moths and butterflies from South Africa. Thanks

Response from developer

Yes, we are planning on expanding worldwide. We'll be importing worldwide taxons and training the AI on species beyond North America very soon. If you have any recommended resources for South African leps that you'd like me to use as a guide, please do not hesitate to email us at hello@fieldguide.net. Thanks so much for the review!

My new favorite app

I am 17 years old and i have been obsessed with lepidoptera for about a year. I saw a post about this app on the Moth Week twitter and instantly knew i had to download it. As soon as i started uploading pictures to the app, i wondered where the app had been this past year. I've only had it for a few hours, and i'm already addicted. Thank you, Andre Poremski, for your creation.
