Highly Recommend

This app is great for phonemic awareness and we use for our 3 and 5 year olds! They love the interactive features so much that they forget they're learning and have a longer stamina for practicing sounds.

Perfect for our needs

I’m loosely following Montessori for my kiddos. They start with letter sounds instead of the names of letters. So phonetic awareness goes with that. Using an app/screen time isn’t necessarily Montessori, but hey.
I am able to use my iPhone’s “guided access” feature to set a timer and also keep my son from navigating around the app (disabling him from hitting the settings button, etc in the app).
He is almost 3 and this app is perfect for his age. Also, he’s great with real life puzzles, but I didn’t realize he would have trouble with matching an image position. Hard to explain, but anyway, this app is helping with that skill too! So bonus there :)

Finally no letters!

Finally an app that focuses on phonemic awareness and doesn’t immediately involve phonics. Students need so much practice with perceiving and discriminating sounds and this app will provide it.

Great app.

I have been working with young children for the past 40 years. This app is fun and engaging ! This app will capture the children's attention . I highly recommend this app to all parents and teachers of young children.

FAQ

What does Letter Free Phonics do?

Letter Free Phonics is designed to build essential phonemic awareness skills in young children. It helps children learn to identify the initial sounds of words and understand that words are composed of sound units (phonemes). This foundational skill is a strong predictor of success in learning to read.

How does the app teach phonics without using letters?

The app focuses on the sounds of letters rather than the letters themselves or their names. It uses games where children interact with images and hear the beginning sounds associated with them. This indirect learning approach helps children develop an ear for sounds before they are introduced to the written alphabet.

What types of games are included in Letter Free Phonics?

The app features two types of games. The first two games involve puzzles where moving a piece correctly triggers the beginning sound of the featured image. The subsequent two games require children to match images to corresponding sound stars, reinforcing their learning of sounds.

Is Letter Free Phonics free to use?

The app is free to download and use, with in-app purchases available. This likely means that some content or features may require a purchase to unlock.

Who is the target audience for this app?

This app is intended for young children and preschoolers who are developing pre-reading skills. It is also beneficial for parents and educators looking for tools to support early literacy development and build a strong foundation for reading.
