Boring

Needs more interaction Nake a word - nothing happens You win nothing happens - The game wins nothing happens - Word Wow is a great example

Almost as good as Bookworm

I started playing this game today. I like it, but I have a few issues with it.

First of all, when you have a really good tile like a blue tile and a burning tile comes down and you haven’t used it yet, it will immediately come down and cover the blue tile. In Bookworm, it would wait a few seconds before taking away the blue tile but in this game it doesn’t.

Secondly, a lot of words I question if they are real words. And I don’t think abbreviations should be used, like DEC for December etc. and thirdly, there are just too many burning tiles that come down. There’s hardly ever a time when you just have a clear board with no burning tiles.

Can’t figure out how to play with added friend

I added a friend and neither one of us can figure out how to join together…no indicators.

Nope

I played Bookworm on my pc for years. This game pales in comparison. The letter distribution is out of control; too many Xs, Zs, Cs, and Us, very few RSTLNE. I never bumped into a paywall but the game itself was pointless and frustrating.

Needs a dictionary update

Sleaze, dork, poo, orzo - why are these straightforward words not in the dictionary? I also have agree with other reviewers - far too many difficult letters as you go up the levels, so you are forced to focus on getting rid of them, the game becomes about stressful firefighting not relaxed fun. And letters can drop down from the top (as a new letter) already as fire tiles. Several times it was a Q. You have no chance to try to move it away from the top, and I was extremely lucky on those occasions that there was a U on the way, as a fire tile Q burned its way down to the bottom! If not, it would have been instant game over

Needs improvement

I was so excited when I found this game as I loved Bookworm but it’s ruined by far too many X,J,U,V and Zs! You spend so much time trying to get rid of these letters instead of looking for decent words and it completely spoils the game. Please please please reduce these letters and make this a game worth playing.
UPDATE: I’m still playing this but I’m disappointed the developer has done nothing about decreasing the letters. The letter E is the most commonly used yet there are only 7762 compared to the U at 8344! And the Z is the least used letter in the alphabet yet there are 2728 of these in the game! I can’t help wondering if the developer has actually played it? It certainly isn’t the relaxing game he states it is.
So frustrating.

Good replacement for Bookworm

Enjoying the game. Just completed all the library categories. Will it reset and give you new words to find?

Letter Wizard Mar 30 2023

Been looking for the new spin off word game similar to Bookworm that was discontinued. I love this new game even better. However, it freezes on me now and again. Can you check into it for minor bug fixes please. Thanks. Sent by Linda.N

Good Bookworm replacement

About as good a replacement for Bookworm as one could expect.

One question - What is the yellow bar under the letter box with the almost always increasing number next to it?

Bugged to drop red letters constantly

After the meter fills up for red letters they drop more or less constantly. Seems like a bug was introduced in the last month or two.

Okay but not Bookworm

This is an entertaining app - it would be better though if the dev stuck to a FORMAL and accepted dictionary of words. I have come across too many instances where the app gave me points for a word that was simply NOT a word (like, cen and coe). Also, the red tiles are too much. Bookworm threw these at you too, but this app sometimes keeps dumping red tiles for 5 - 10 minutes, and you spend most of your time at the top 20% of the screen. (If red tiles reach bottom, you lose)

Not a bit like Bookworm

Not enjoyable at all. Loads of Qu, v & z, doesn’t give you enough letters to try & make a word more than 4 letters long.

Fun, but in English?

This game is a lot of fun and I’ve played it daily since I got it. But I can’t believe it is made for English. There are a ton of the letters J, X, U, and Z, most often adjacent to each other, and almost NEVER a Y, an S, or an R. Often consonants are all grouped together and vowels the same. It’s disappointing having to continually make short 3 and 4 letter words, and having no means of switching two letters (you can only shuffle the whole board). Fun, but frustrating.

Thank god someone has made a replacement for bookworm!

Great game, hours of fun can also compare stats with family members.

Has potential, but needs work

Love the concept of this game, but the execution falls short. Graphics are basic and remind me of a 70's video game. When trying to highlight letters, they are not always picked up the first, second or even third try. I am having to use a stylus to help pickup tiles. Even then, not all are being captured. Makes playing this game very difficult. I look forward to watching this game evolve. It has a lot of potential. Good thing it is free now as I would definitely be getting a refund otherwise.

Missed a game like this!

Really happy to have found a game like bookworm! I missed it so much. I’m hoping that you can add some more flame tiles, they get very less in the high levels. Thanks!

Fills the void left by bookworm, but could be use some adjustments!

Like others, I found this app while desperately trying to fill the void that was left by bookworm after it vanished off the App Store. I’m happy to say that it does just that! Though there’s a couple of wonky things I’ve noticed while I’ve been playing.

The most severe and weirdest, was having my game end really abruptly about 250k points in. There was one fire tile at the top, and when I cleared that it just gave me the game over panel and prompted me to restart. I still have no idea why, but it was frustrating because I had 8 green tiles and 4 blue tiles on the board that I was stock piling.

Also this is a minor gripe, but I think there should be a two letter word exception for Qi. Having just a Q fire tile (and not a qu) is almost certainly a game ender unless you scramble until you get a u beside it. Being able to use Qi would balance that I think.

Last, also minor critique, but I feel like the play area could be a bit larger. There’s a lot of extraneous stuff on the screen that squishes it down (like letter wizard being at the top and the art wizard being large at the bottom). This is especially an accessibility issue on SE devices where the screen space is much smaller. Measuring it on my screen, the playable area is about 1.35 x 1.35 inches maximum.

I feel like other comments address other quality of life issues fairly well, though!

In any case, I’m not meaning to totally harp on this app - I love it! But with some improvements it could truly be great.

Almost Perfect, But Not Quite

I’ve been looking for a bookworm clone ever since it lost Apple app support. This is a very good replacement. I wish you could double tap the last letter of a word to submit it though. It’s a little thing that greatly improves the game experience.

Pretty close, definitely enjoyable!

I miss Bookworm so much and I was super excited to finally find a game that’s almost the same. I enjoy playing this game a lot. Just a few things I’ve noticed so far: my bonus word is “SUQ” but there are only “Qu” tiles so it looks like I’ll never get the bonus word. I wish the letter was just Q. Plus there are other words that have Q in them without U right after. Secondly, I liked in bookworm how you could tap the last letter of the word you created to submit it, rather than having to hit submit at the top. My last note is that I just miss our little worm friend. But I’m sure that’s a copyright issue. :) Overall, awesome game!
