What works?
- I turn off dark mode and it still stays black
- There’s no way to add a movie to my list from the movie page?
- There’s no “to watch list” to add to? So I keep creating a list and adding a movie, “saving” and it never does. It saves the list but not the movies I add.

Investing Everywhere but the User Experience
This is especially frustrating for paying users because these aren't merely cosmetic bugs; they undermine the basic premise of a database-driven service. Filters and other features can produce stale or incorrect results because they aren't consistently reflecting the user's own data. Letterboxd has built an indispensable product and community, but its infrastructure and data reliability increasingly feel like an afterthought. For a paid service, recurring downtime and inconsistent data synchronization are difficult to justify, and users deserve substantially better transparency and reliability.
I have such little confidence in their servers that I now have a schedule to routinely backup my account data. This is the only platform I use that requires such handholding and nuance.
The service also lacks the privacy features one would expect from any mature platform of this kind. Privacy is a right, not a privilege. The absence of fundamental user privacy controls makes the service unusable, impractical, or unnecessarily inconvenient for many users.
While I love what Letterboxd could be (and, in those brief moments when everything works as it should, what it actually is) these shortcomings are difficult to excuse for a company with likely more than 17 million users, many of whom pay for the service.
It genuinely pains me to write such a damning review of a service I’ve used and paid for for nearly half a decade, and one that I still love so much about. But it increasingly feels as though little or no meaningful resources are being devoted to resolving these longstanding issues, and I’m becoming deeply disenchanted. The excitement I once felt about recommending the service to others has faded. More and more, I find myself telling people that, as much as I want to recommend it, it simply isn’t worth it.
I look forward to the day when I can restore my 5 star rating.

Add movie ratings?
I wonder if it would be possible to add movie ratings (PG, R, etc) so when I’m browsing what movie to watch, I know which ones are suitable to watch with family right in the app.
Thanks and great app!
