PLEASE ADD THIS FEATURE.

I love Letterboxd, but I cannot understand why they don’t let you review TV shows. Especially episodes. For real. Imagine you could review every episode of Breaking Bad? Rate it??? I cannot understand why this is NOT a feature.

better than fake review IMDb

i got so tired of trying to find quality reviews to help me decide if a movie is worth my time. IMDb has become a cesspool of paid for reviews which are pretty easy to identify, but I still don't want to waste time filtering through that slop. rotten tomatoes is another kind of bad with vested critics more concerned with licking the boots of studios or overly hyped directors. [update] I wish Letterboxd included aspect ratio filmed at like IMDb does.

Support team ignores you

I fall into the small percentage of users that pay for Patron, their top-tier membership. When I respectfully reach out to their helpdesk or Data team with a simple request, I get completely ignored. It is extremely unprofessional and rude. Their support staff literally refuses to do their job.

What works?

Okay maybe I don’t get it.

- I turn off dark mode and it still stays black

- There’s no way to add a movie to my list from the movie page?

- There’s no “to watch list” to add to? So I keep creating a list and adding a movie, “saving” and it never does. It saves the list but not the movies I add.

Am I being a dodo here? How does this have 4.8 stars?

Investing Everywhere but the User Experience

Letterboxd is an excellent concept undermined by persistent reliability problems. The service suffers from recurring outages and server instability, but the bigger issue is that even when the site is technically “up,” core functionality can be unreliable. Changes to Watchlists, Lists, reviews, ratings, and other account data can take an unreasonably long time to propagate or fail to appear where they should at all. A change being successfully saved should not mean waiting 10+ minutes before the rest of the site recognizes it.

This is especially frustrating for paying users because these aren't merely cosmetic bugs; they undermine the basic premise of a database-driven service. Filters and other features can produce stale or incorrect results because they aren't consistently reflecting the user's own data. Letterboxd has built an indispensable product and community, but its infrastructure and data reliability increasingly feel like an afterthought. For a paid service, recurring downtime and inconsistent data synchronization are difficult to justify, and users deserve substantially better transparency and reliability.

I have such little confidence in their servers that I now have a schedule to routinely backup my account data. This is the only platform I use that requires such handholding and nuance.

The service also lacks the privacy features one would expect from any mature platform of this kind. Privacy is a right, not a privilege. The absence of fundamental user privacy controls makes the service unusable, impractical, or unnecessarily inconvenient for many users.

While I love what Letterboxd could be (and, in those brief moments when everything works as it should, what it actually is) these shortcomings are difficult to excuse for a company with likely more than 17 million users, many of whom pay for the service.

It genuinely pains me to write such a damning review of a service I’ve used and paid for for nearly half a decade, and one that I still love so much about. But it increasingly feels as though little or no meaningful resources are being devoted to resolving these longstanding issues, and I’m becoming deeply disenchanted. The excitement I once felt about recommending the service to others has faded. More and more, I find myself telling people that, as much as I want to recommend it, it simply isn’t worth it.

I look forward to the day when I can restore my 5 star rating.

You can get away with hate, bile, and bigotry, on this app; but only against straight white men.

Add movie ratings?

I love letterboxd so much, i use it to browse every movie i want to watch & keep track of them!
I wonder if it would be possible to add movie ratings (PG, R, etc) so when I’m browsing what movie to watch, I know which ones are suitable to watch with family right in the app.
Thanks and great app!

Put the stars back

I don’t want to rate films with a fire. Where’d the stars go

Reseña

Need to Add

Would give 5 stars if there was a way to save t.v shows. I use IMBD simply for tracking t.v shows. If this app had that I would never use anything else ever again!
