Useful but lacks much
This app is great for viewing documents of all sorts (primary, secondary, etc.), however the biggest issue is that it is not fully integrated with Lexis AI (the browser version of Lexis). This means that if you use Lexis on a browser and then come to the app to look at the same documents, then the app will tell you that the Lexis AI documents (the same primary and secondary sources) are “out of plan,” and then forces the user to search that document again using the older interface of Lexis. Likewise, when you view a document on the app and then go to the browser version, the browser version pulls up the old Lexis interface instead of the Lexus AI interface.
In short, this app could be far better if they just integrated it with the browser interface so that there is no disparity between the two, I.e., they need to make the experience between the app and the browser seamless.

A searching tweak
Overall a very beneficial app. Use it all the time. I actually prefer to do my research on the iPad through this app than to use the website on a PC.
Anyway, we would really appreciate it being possible to filter results from all appellate courts within a jurisdiction without individually selecting all courts.
There are many times I’d love to see results from all circuit courts in the United States but not district courts. Plus, my state has multiple independent appellate courts, and I’d like to search for results from all courts without having to specifically select all of them. It just saves time and effort to have this be an option.
Thanks!

Get Westlaw — stay away from Lexis
This app is useless. I get better legal research just using Google.
Every time I go to do a search I have to restrict my search to my plan. Lexis keeps making me search their entire database.
I select to filter my search to statutes and instead I get a list of cases.
I tried to use the table of contents, but the titles go off the page and there’s no way to slide them over to read them. What use is it if I get an entire list that reads “19.01” and the rest of the number and description is cutoff? I tried turning my iPhone to landscape but the blank spaces just got bigger and everything was still cutoff at the same place.
I was dumb enough to lock myself into a Lexis contract to save a few bucks. I’m going back to Westlaw as soon as I can.
I was in conference on a case where we had a question that had to be looked up. My opposing counsel found the answer on the Westlaw app while I was still trying to apply the filters to only search New York statutes.
If someone at Lexis reads this, I suggest you pay for a Westlaw subscription and use their app and try to imitate them.
Update 11/8/20224
I think I wrote my review about 3 years ago. This morning, Lexis wrote a response to my review. Wow, way to be on top of things Lexis — you only took 3 years. Just one more reason in the column on why Westlaw is better.

Vreeland Legal Inc
Hey all!! Vreeland Legal Inc is a new legal resource corporation that is way better than Lexis!! Download the Vreeland legal app and try it for yourself!! You won’t be dissatisfied!!! Only 750 a year for all rules, forms, annotations and more!!!
7 years later same problem as The1Vito
Seven years later and they still haven’t fixed the problem.
Terrible
Not well organized or constructed. Don’t let Lexis salesperson tell you this is worth anything. Lexis Advance is a terrible product with login issues and horrible customer service, this app is just an offshoot of that.
Decent
I noticed most reviews of the app are from 6+ years ago, but in my experience thus far, its been fine. The app is occasionally slow and there are some basic issues that could probably be fixed or done better, but overall the app gets the job done.
Crashes too often
Freezes all the time
Loosely functional
It’s fine for extremely basic needs, but this app could really be a game changer if it worked smoothly. Lexis is all gloss over a shoddy product. Not unlike WL in that respect. But an optimized Lexis app would put them miles ahead of WL.
I want to click a link and it open a new tab, not redirect me from my current page. I’d like saving a page to a folder to work consistently. I’d like a less obstructive UI. I’d even pay for all of this. But right now, it’s just a crappy web reader.

Some critical features missing
This app is nearly everything that it needs to simulate the functionality of the desktop experience.
But there are some significant drawbacks. It makes no sense that you can’t edit search terms after executing a search. Because this is a mobile platform, it is more likely that users will make mistakes entering a search string. Yet if you put together a long search string and one part is wrong, you have to go back and rewrite the entire search string. Inputting search strings is already incredibly cumbersome on a mobile device such as a phone or ipad, and requiring perfection the first time is a real annoyance.
One other problem is that once a search is completed, it is difficult to navigate and work with the results. Navigating between different types of content (cases, secondary sources, rules, etc.) is extremely difficult. In addition, finding and locating filters for the content is also difficult. The navigation is not where it should be.

Not intuitive, re-sets, makes work difficult
I use my iPad exclusively for out of the office work. I’m running the current gen iPad Pro, so there’s no lack of power to drive the app. I’m also a huge Lexis fan. But this app is terrible. It resets when you multitask, does not run effectively in the background, hangs when it resets and has to log back in via Face ID requiring you to kill the app (again) and open it like the fragile little egg it is. On top of that its not intuitive in the slightest. It’s far too hard to browse code or regs via sections, when you search for a citation it pops more than one tab attempting to drive you to a lexis summary of the citation rather than the SPECIFIC citation you wanted, randomly kills tabs when you click the the top level search button for a new search, and doesn’t automatically drop a cursor in the search box when it’s opened. About all I like with the interface is the tab function, when it works and isn’t killed. Come on lexis, I know how much we pay you. You can do better than this.

Lacks certain databases
On this app, I cannot find the person report database that is part of my subscription
Not intuitive
Very difficult to get where you want to go and search what you want to search. Like LexisAdvance on the web, but the app really needs some work.
Bad interface prevents use
I am unable to search for cases on this app. When I am typing search terms, the suggestion bar appears in place of the keyboard while I type causing me to hit suggestions accidentally. I attempted to search Fourth Amendment issues surrounding consent. I was unable to finish typing "consent" and never got to the second item of "while intoxicated" or even just "intoxicated." Additionally, because I was unable to finish the word "consent," the suggestions were not useful.

Buggy and needs improvement to be usable
Crashes, five clicks required to highlight text and highlights fail half the time, highlighting doesn’t stay with the text you marked (!), saving cases to folder takes too long, internal navigation buttons between search filter folders etc make no sense, and many other problems. Okay as a tool to read research, but otherwise frustrating and wastes your time. Lexis, this app needs serious improvements to even be considered an alpha release. Please fix.

Crashes too much
I try it every few months and it gets better, but it crashes way too much to be usable. They need to focus on the bare minimum of having an app that works before adding features.
Doesn’t work — session times out
So much for all those fancy features of the search engine can’t return results.
I wish they would fix this app
I would use it all the time! I haven’t used it yet to find a case because it crashes whenever I select the client number.
Frustrating
Frustrating when you have full WiFi and cell bars but it keeps saying no network! How am I supposed to look up cases while being mobile with this thing?
