Does not use lidar any more
Response from developer
You were right, and thank you for describing it so precisely — "switching between Lidar and Standard modes has no effect" is exactly what was happening. An update had replaced the LiDAR depth map with a low-light colour filter, so LiDAR mode was drawing from the camera instead of the scanner. That is also why it could read text on paper but could not see in the dark: a camera filter still needs light, and the scanner does not. Version 1.3.1 is in review with Apple now. It restores the real depth view and opens straight into it: on a Pro device the first thing you see is the rainbow distance map drawn by the scanner, and it looks the same with the lights off. The pure depth view is free again as well — it should never have been moved behind the paywall. Sorry it took this long to put right.
lidar always says too close when i'm pitch black
Response from developer
You found a real bug, and it was ours. In the dark the scanner returns a lot of low-confidence readings close to zero, and the app was averaging them into the distance measurement. That pulled the reading under 30 cm and left "Too close" on screen permanently — worst of all in exactly the pitch-black conditions the app is for. Version 1.3.1 is in review with Apple now. It filters those low-confidence readings out and takes the median instead, so the distance reads correctly in a dark room. The same update fixes the larger problem behind it: LiDAR mode had stopped drawing from the scanner at all, so it now opens on the real depth view, which needs no light. Thank you for reporting it, and sorry you hit it.
