Ham Station Operator - Good App

Monitoring lightening is crucial at a radio station, appears to work well on an old iOS 15 ipad used for weather monitoring.
Will likely go premium after a few weeks checking for bugs.

Bleikr, an iOS 15 iPad on weather duty at a radio station is not the setup I tested on, so "appears to work well" is good news I did not have. The map reads NOAA GOES satellite data, and per-strike alerts are what Premium adds. If anything misbehaves on that iPad, support@lightningtracker.app reaches me directly. Stable code but still unrefined

Currently (September 2026) version 1.0.34 still has a fairly crude interface. For example; in settings I am unable to locate the adjustment for display-time persistence on the map. It appears to just use an unknown default time period called “latest” which the developer chose for us. The apparent alternative to “latest” is “past 24h” which does not display any strikes when this option is selected. What it does; it seems to do without crashing which is better than many programs do when they are new and as yet unrefined. This program has good potential to evolve into a go-to program; however it has not yet reached this level.

Thank you for the detailed and fair review. Version 1.0.35 now labels "Latest" as "Last 30 min", adds a 15, 30 or 60-minute strike display setting, and keeps the map visible when Past 24h is unavailable. Didn’t do what I needed. Hard to see where the historic strikes were.

Really hard to see the lightning strikes. the icon doesn’t stand out. It’s shows you ‘2 in the last x hours’. Tapping that does nothing to focus the screen on where they were.

I know there was one really close to my house at 11:30am today. No sign of it on the map.

Thanks for the detail. You saw a real strike and expected to find it on the map, that is a fair expectation. Two things work against it. I read NOAA's GOES-19 GLM satellite, which resolves lightning at roughly 8 to 14 km, so strikes close together collapse into one cluster and a weak flash near the edge of detection may not appear at all. You are also right that the icons do not stand out enough, and tapping the historical count to jump straight to those strikes would be genuinely useful. That part is on me to build. Nice and free

Helps me decided to golf or not when storms are rolling in fast off the mountains towards Denver

Samtheo90, golf or no golf is the most practical use of a lightning map I have heard. When a storm rolls off the mountains, the approaching-storm alert is the free part built for exactly that decision, and the clubhouse beats the fairway every time. Nikolai Creator of Lightning Tracker

Pay version may be ok

Just downloaded and the free version is clunky and useless. Deleting after posting this. Many other free lightning maps are available. The paid version could be better.

CT210driver, "clunky" is a fair word and I would rather know which part. Free is the live lightning map, the approaching-storm alert, the 30-30 timer and one saved location, so if that felt useless I want to know whether it was the map performance, the layout or the missing radar layer, which is currently off for everyone.
