About

Litmus reads what is printed on the package and hands it back to you, marked: the ingredient sentence exactly as printed, with every flagged word highlighted where it sits and a note beneath that says why, with the evidence behind it and the source it came from. THE LABEL, MARKED No cards, no dial, no coloured dots. Every ingredient stays in the order the label printed it, because on a US label position is information. A word we hold evidence on is highlighted in place and carries a small marker. A word on your own list is set in red. A word we could not place says so, with a question mark, instead of being quietly absorbed. NOTES WITH SOURCES Each marker keys to a note under the sentence: what the mark means, which words carry it, the record each one matched, and the regulation or assessment it cites. Every citation opens the document itself. IT WORKS WITH NO INTERNET The product database and the ingredient rules are on your phone. Read a label in a basement aisle, on a plane, or abroad with data switched off. Nothing is uploaded, no photo is written to disk, and there is no account to create. TWO WAYS TO READ Point at a barcode and Litmus looks it up in a bundled database of about 440,000 US products. If it is not there, fill the window with the printed panel and tap Read the printed list. That second path is the important one: it works on any physically labelled product, it never goes stale, and it works on cosmetics too. YOUR LIST IS FREE, FOREVER Tick as many allergens as you like and every scan is read against them. This is the safety layer and it is never behind a paywall, never capped, and never reordered below an upsell. Litmus reports "no flagged ingredients found" and asks you to verify with your clinician, because a label cannot rule out cross contact and we will not pretend otherwise. EVIDENCE, NOT VERDICTS Marks describe the STRENGTH OF THE EVIDENCE, from strong human evidence down to no current evidence of concern at permitted use. Litmus does not call products dangerous and does not copy scores from any other app. AN HONEST SCORE, OR NONE AT ALL Where the nutrition data is complete, Litmus states a 0 to 100 score as a line of facts, using the published Nutri-Score algorithm plus our own additive and organic weighting, and shows the sub-scores that produced it. Where the data is incomplete, it says so instead of inventing a number. PRO ADDS DEPTH, NOT SAFETY Optional Litmus Pro adds a plain-English explanation for each flagged ingredient, written from the same sources the free tier cites, plus separate profiles for a household and CSV export of your scan history. Everything described above stays free. SUBSCRIPTION TERMS Litmus Pro is available monthly or yearly, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends, and you can cancel any time in your Apple account settings. Prices are shown in the app before you buy. What's New in Litmus Label Reader

2.0

September 19, 2026

A NEW PAGE Litmus now reads the label back to you as the label: the ingredient sentence exactly as printed, with each flagged word highlighted where it sits and a marker that keys to a note beneath. Each note carries the evidence tier and the document it came from. No cards, no dial, no coloured dots. THREE WORDS ON A RULE Label, Your list and Kept replace the four tabs. Your list is the printed checklist every scan is read against. Kept holds your scans, your plan, the promises the app makes and every source, on one page that never leaves the phone. A NEW ICON A heavy L with one highlighter stroke through it: ink on paper, and a mark. STILL HERE Spanish labels, fewer false alarms on maltodextrin and its relatives, JSON export, and Siri. Everything the app checks is checked exactly as before; only the page changed.
