Can’t Imagine Writing Without It

I’m writing my first novel. LivingWriter has been priceless to me. I use it on four different devices: A laptop, desktop, iPhone and iPad. Switching between them has been priceless. The features are more than enough to keep your work organized and to keep you inspired. If you plan on hopping between devices, make sure you close out your work beforehand. Overall, this writing app is highly recommended.

After abit of using i cant write anything

I really need to do a book report and the easiest app i found i cant use anymore :/

Good for beginners

Good for beginners and demo books, but not real books. No issues though.

Immediate Crash

The web application has worked well so far, so I downloaded the app for my Macbook Air M1. Once logging in, I tried to access my story elements. The app immediately crashed. Not a great sign. I'll be uninstalling.

Not great…yet

The web-based interface is very good! I’m in my two-week free trial and I’ve decided to purchase this. I really like the features (specifically that you can collaborate with other writers and share drafts for editing) and how intuitive it is to use. My only issue with the web-based software is that I can’t use the free form plot board via the web on my iPad—for some reason it cuts off the bottom portion of the screen (I can’t add items to the board). So even logging in via the web has limited functionality on mobile devices. I’ve had Scrivener for years but I can’t easily collaborate with it, or seamlessly use it between devices, which is why I’ve been looking for something else. That said, the LivingWriter app isn’t great, so I can’t seamlessly use between devices either. ☹️☹️☹️ I’ve tried using it on my iPhone and iPad and gotten error messages literally half the times I’ve tried to use it (4 error messages of 8 attempts). The plot board isn’t available in the app, and the app is buggy—it just does squirrely things. So if you plan on writing solely in the app, I wouldn’t recommend it. But if the app is only for an occasional note or moment of inspiration, I would recommend it because the web interface is very good and the company seems to be constantly improving their product, so I think the app will be reliable and robust at some future point. AND the app doesn’t scrape data which I love. 💕

Amazing!

The fact they allow you to suggest features and report bugs is the most amazing thing ever. I’m just hoping they listen and update. I’ll change my review to 5star when they do.

Missing Features

A VERY watered down version of what you would use on your desktop. No pictures for characters and the options are bare bones. I love the browser version if they could actually translate that success here it would be incredible.

It has a free trial

Is there really anything else to be said?

BEWARE!

After 30 days this Ap charges you to continue using the ap! So in other words everything you've written on the LivingWriter you now have to pay to get all you have written on the ap off of there!

I looked through the ap before using it and no where did I see it say that this ap will start charging you $8 per month after 30 days!

Very shady! I thought it was a free ap! I never would of installed this ap or used it in the first place had they been honest and said ahead of time that AYou will be billed $8 per month!

Solid start but failed as company

I was excited to try this product, great features but....very buggy and questionable company policies. My story is that I imported a large draft novel and after a few failures but very good support from the company I got it into LivingWriter. The biggest challenge was that it did not recognize paragraphs, but that was handled by support. It took most of the free trial time so I bought a years subscription. Then discovered I could not add chapters because it was imported and it did not recognize the chapter s from my word document.

That was not going to work to have a novel with no chapters so I told them it would not work, the support team agreed but the company will not refund the subscription fee. So I feel cheated, be careful of the company. They seem to have few ethnics.

It's good.

As a new writing app, this works. Movable chapters and subchapters with notes. Very adequate formatting and export options. I'm using it for book 28 and like its simplicity rather than the complexity of other similar apps. It stays current with versioning on multiple devices. And excellent support. Try it.

Amazing Start

Being a newer writing app, I really enjoy using it. It’s got a dark mode where even the paper is darker and it’s really nice on my eyes, especially when I write at night.
I really enjoy the ability to create “profiles” for your characters, where you can include a picture. Being an artist and a writer I truly appreciate this as I can put the picture of my character together, and if I need more information I just click on it and a panel to the right with the character and the profile pops up.
I’m excited for the new updates where you will be able to write offline. You can also convert it to Word too. Which is also really nice. 9/10 would recommend. (Not 10/10 because it needs more features, but that’s okay because it will have more in the future.)

Good for what it is

What ever happened to lain old typing? I don’t need motivators, just a blank sheet of paper to type on, with just formatting options built in, grafs, blocks, etc.

My fault for not reading the description more carefully.

I also find all the emails offering help counterproductive.

Aah, well: the price of being a Luddite in a tech world.

Absolutely infuriating

Worst app ever. Working against a deadline and the app failed to save an entire story. But I didn’t know that until I went in to finishing editing and submit the story on a deadline. I had to start rewriting the whole story with only a day to get it down. After an hour and a half of working, the screen jumped and lost everything I had written. INFURIATING!!!!! All that work gone!!! Now I have an hour and a half less time than I had before to rewrite a week’s worth of copy, AND I have an illustrator waiting on the story!! Don’t waste your money! Stick with Word .

Good for new release, can’t wait for what’s to come

Living Writer, like most writing softwares, are better on a computer. That said, the app really works seamlessly and it allows for me to write on the go when I don’t have WiFi.
The app only came out mid fall 2020, so it’s still new. I’m eager to see how the app will grow and improve!

Great ap but needs more features!

Best thing I love about this ap is a weekly email I get showing me how many words, and total words, I’ve added for the week! It’s positive, reinforcing and motivates me to do more! That said, you guys need to add additional features to make things a bit more fluid. Like the ability to rearrange chapters more freely instead of locking them into position. Beyond that, I look forward to writing in LivingWriter everyday!

Love it !!

Much easier than other apps that you have to pay per month like iA writer , bugs are fixed
I use it as notes or even personal diary
I love the dark mode, make the design even cooler
I really advise this app
Good work! Keep going !!

Easy to use

So much easier to use and has nice features. Love the ease of being able to type on the go and not having to press a “save” button!

Amazing writing app

Amazing. Very easy to use and I like the feature of adding goals on a project/story.

Definitely the best for writing

After dealing with Scrivener for years, LivingWriter is amazing. So much newer and easier to use I love it
