About

Your iPhone is already counting your steps. Lockstep puts the number on a leaderboard and lets someone beat you. Start a competition with friends, send them a link, and walk. Steps sync in the background, so nobody has to remember to log anything. HOW IT WORKS - Sign in with Apple and pick a username. A short setup takes you through a photo, Apple Health, a daily goal, and notifications - skip any of it. - Start a competition: a week, a month, a custom range, a head-to-head, or a race to a step target. - Send the link. Whoever opens it is one tap from joining. - Steps sync in the background. The leaderboard updates itself. - See what it takes: how far you are from the next place and from first, and how many steps a day would close the gap. - Leave a note on your row - it disappears after 24 hours. Take a rest day and say so. FIVE WAYS TO RUN A COMPETITION - Weekly — Monday to Sunday. Most steps win. - Monthly — a calendar month. Most steps win. - Custom range — any two dates you choose. - Head-to-head — exactly two people, shown as a duel. - Race to target — first to reach a step target wins. CROWNS Finish first, second, or third, and you earn Crowns - more for a longer competition, so a month is worth more than a week. They add up over time, never reset, and sit beside your name for everyone in your competitions to see. YOUR STREAK Set a daily goal - Lockstep can suggest one from what you already walk - and every day you reach it adds to your streak. If your streak is on the line and the day is getting on, a reminder at 4 pm says how many steps are left. It waits for a fresh sync of your steps first, so it goes by today's real number. IT READS ONE THING Lockstep asks Apple Health for permission to read your daily step total, and nothing else. Not routes, not locations, not workouts, not heart rate, not the time of day you walked. It requests no permission to write at all, so it cannot add, change, or remove anything in Health. The number in Lockstep matches the number in the Health app because it is the same number — counted once, after Health removes the double-counting between your iPhone and any watch or ring. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO - No ads, no tracking, no analytics, and no third-party SDKs. - Nothing sold to anybody. - No public profiles and no feed. Your steps are seen by the friends you add and the people in your competitions — nobody else. - Blocking somebody hides each of you from the other straight away. In a competition you already share, you both still count, so rankings mean the same thing to everyone. WHEN A DAY IS WRONG Type it in by hand. Manual entries are marked as manual, and everyone in the competition can see which is which. The leaderboard is only worth having if it is honest. DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT Profile → Delete account. Your steps, notes, and photo are deleted, and your name and picture are removed from everything. Competitions you already finished keep their results, and you'll be shown as a former member. What's New in Lockstep Tracker

1.0.3

October 6, 2026

• Fixed: Lockstep could end up unable to read Apple Health and unable to ask for it again, with the steps dial stuck at zero and "Last sync failed: Authorization not determined" under it. It now asks Apple Health each time rather than trusting what it remembered, and Home carries a button that puts the Health permission sheet back up. • The steps chart says which average it is showing: a daily average on W and M, a weekly average on 6M, and a monthly average on Y. Tapping a bar names its total the same way, and the best bar in the range is now the best day, week, or month. • People who have not walked yet are no longer given a place. First thing in the morning, a board showed everybody tied in the same position; a row on zero now shows no rank at all, and a shared rank above zero still means a real tie. • Fixed: a profile photo taken with the phone held upright could upload a quarter turn over, be squashed out of shape, and be cropped off what it was pointing at. Photos are now saved the way up they were taken. A photo already uploaded this way stays as it is until it is set again. • Crowns: finish first, second, or third in a competition, and you earn Crowns - more for a longer one. Your total and your wins are on your profile, and the total sits beside your name on leaderboards and the Friends board. A draft shows what each place pays before it starts. • Changed your mind about a draft? Leave it, and rejoin with the same link if you want back in. Whoever created a competition can now rename it at any time. • New accounts get a short setup after choosing a username: a photo, Apple Health, a daily goal, and notifications, each one skippable. Profile → Take the tour shows it again. • Your daily goal can start from what you already walk: Lockstep suggests one from the last 30 days in Apple Health. • Raising your goal can shorten your streak, since every day in it is measured against the new number. Lockstep now tells you by how much before you save. • Take a profile photo with the camera, as well as choosing one from your library. • A 4 pm reminder when your streak is at risk and today is still short of your goal. It waits for a fresh sync of your steps first. Turn it off under Notifications → Streak at risk. • When a competition ends, everyone still competing in it hears so, with where they stand for now, while the last day's steps can still come in. • Created a draft? You'll hear who joins it and who leaves, gathered into one notification instead of one for each person. • The notification that a competition has started now says when counting began - including steps already walked since its first day.
