About

Locus is a genome browser mobile viewer: a touch-first way to use the UCSC Genome Browser on iPhone and iPad. Everything you see comes from UCSC. Locus has no servers or accounts of its own. Tracks, sequence, search suggestions, and BLAT alignments are requested directly from the UCSC Genome Browser, and your saved sessions stay in your UCSC account. YOUR UCSC SESSIONS AND CUSTOM TRACKS • Paste a UCSC shared-session or hgTracks link with your UCSC API key to bring in the custom tracks you've saved at UCSC. • Keep up to eight workspaces, each with its own session, tracks, and layout. • Your API key stays in the iOS Keychain on your device. BUILT FOR TOUCH • Drag to pan, pinch or double-tap to zoom, and tap any feature for its details. • Go Back and Forward through the places you've jumped to. • Roomy and Compact layouts, per-track row limits, and track reordering. • Keyboard shortcuts on iPad. FIND YOUR WAY • Search for a gene, a transcript (NM_007294), a dbSNP ID (rs80357906), or coordinates. • Suggestions include feature names from the tracks you have loaded, including your custom tracks. • Tap the chromosome overview to jump along a chromosome. UCSC TRACKS ON hg19 (GRCh37) • RefSeq Select + MANE and RepeatMasker to start. • Add gene, variation, phenotype, regulation, and comparative genomics tracks from curated groups, or search the full UCSC hg19 track catalog. • Some tracks come from providers with their own terms, such as OMIM and COSMIC. They stay off until you choose to turn them on. SEQUENCE AND BLAT • Color-coded reference bases at 50 bp and closer. • Copy a position or a feature's DNA, or BLAT a sequence at UCSC and pick through the alignments. • Share any view, or open it in the UCSC Genome Browser on the web. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No ads, analytics, or tracking. Locus collects no data. • Recently viewed regions are cached on your device, so you can keep reading when the connection drops. Locus is an independent app for research and education. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by UCSC. It is not a medical device and must not be used to diagnose, treat, or make clinical decisions.
