Disappointing

Nothing here that you can’t find online for free. Bring back the original format guides with strategic and logistic info about transport options and costs.

Turns daydreaming into an actual plan

Been using LP's books for years and figured the app would just be a glorified PDF. Nope. The guides actually have a point of view, so I'm not stuck scrolling through 40 things to do, restaurants, and accommodations that all look the same. And the advice is actionable too: I go from "oh that looks cool" to a day-by-day itinerary.

The AI guide thing won me over too. Asked it for a half-day near my hotel with good coffee and not much walking, and it gave me a real plan, not generic junk. You can tell it's pulling from the actual guides, and the recommendations come from real people. Pretty much the only travel app I use for planning and while I'm on the trip, not just dreaming about one.

Finally a Travel Super App

I’ve long been a fan of Lonely Planet since my first international trip post college. Really pleased to see handy versions of the guides and travel intel in a digital, portable format. Really strong for inspiration and planning with solid recs for itineraries… looking forward to see how they build on this!

Loved using this during trips!

I always trust recs from lonely planet, especially because I know they come from real travelers. I used the app for a quick check on places to see & where to eat during my trip to New Zealand and loved having everything in one place. The itinerary builder is great too, excited to keep coming back to plan future trips & get travel inspo.

Hopefully it will quickly make a travel planning fun and easy

Love Lonely Planet guides, I understand this is a new app but disappointed to type in a location and have 4 suggestions show with no way to easily search all the dots on the map view.

Definitely needs work to compete with other similar sites. Hopefully will be able to.

Cuts thru the noise

I get overwhelmed by googling for travel recs so have trusted Lonely Planet guides to tell me what to do/see on trips. Glad they have an app now because I don’t want to lug around a book! Can tell this is new with more stuff to build out but enjoying poking around and seeing what they suggest for the destinations on there right now.

Article Collection

I very much enjoy Lonely Planet’s guidebooks. I’ve been buying physical and digital copies for years. I was hoping that instead of buying a new copy for each trip, this app would allow me to view the same content that’s in their books, but in a streamlined app experience. Unfortunately, my expectations have not been met. Instead of the book level of depth and ease, this app is largely a consolidation of Lonely Planet’s articles. Therefore, the content is not as in depth and is more useful for daydreaming about traveling than actually planning for it.

Happy to see Lonely Planet has an app now! It’s got me excited to plan my next trip. Way easier to organize and build out my itinerary within the app than in a doc like I normally do!

Great for on-the-go

Excited to have my trusted LP recs in an app! Have been using the app this week while traveling for inspiration and ideas and it’s been so helpful. Can’t wait to see what new destinations they will release and will definitely use the itinerary feature to plan my next trip.

Brutal Mistakes

I shudder to think how much money was burned developing this app which, in most ways, is inferior to the old Lonely Planet app. Disappointing.

Lonely Planet guides have been trusted in my family for many years so it’s very exciting to have the same high quality content available at my fingertips. I’ve already started building itineraries for my upcoming trips, and I’m so looking forward to using the interactive maps while on the ground!
