A lot more work to do

The app needs a lot of work. It’s not intuitive to use. I’ve tried to create an itinerary for a two month trip I’m planning through Europe next year. I created the trip. It’s limited to 30 days. I added one city. There is no obvious way to add another city. Unless there are reports of significant updates, I won’t be using this app again. It looks pretty, but if I’m stuck with one city it’s useless.

Horrible Access

Tried to register but app page to enter code expired before I could retrieve it from junk. Every login required the gad awful captcha - who thinks of this. Any phone with biometrics should not require 2FA /captcha!

Excited to see this app develop

Been a big fan of the paper guides for years, this app is a little rough around the edges but excited to see it get better over time.

Lonely Planet on your phone!

I’ve traveled with Lonely Planet guidebooks for over 20 years and see tons of potential in the new app. It proved indispensable recently in Taos — got to the Pueblo early for the day’s first tour! I like how it’s the same on-the-ground, expert advice as the books but with a dose of tech like AI chat and geolocation. Plus, I look forward to all the hours of armchair traveling, learning about the world instead of doomscrolling.

Average at best

Articles on an app…… groundbreaking.

Trusted recommendations, beautiful presentation

I’ve traveled with Lonely Planet for a long time and very much enjoying the app to make recommendations and share new insights about places. Enjoying the great photography too

Just bad - use Wanderlog

Functionality far too slow, pictures don’t load, not linked with Google Maps, basic AI requests don’t pull through e.g. give me things to do in Seoul

I would use Wanderlog instead

Limited to what they want to show you.

After about five minutes of planning a trip you will realize that you can only add suggestions that the app provides. You can’t add your own stops for a visit to say Ireland. What they do provide is healthy descriptions of what they want to offer. But plain and simple there is no way to add anything but the provided content.

Good, but needs more functionality

I had high hopes and like the look and feel, but there is no search option for adding sights, etc. I’m planning a few days in London and can add the ‘recommended’ sights, but it won’t let me search for things I know I want to see. I spent 10 minutes trying to find a way to add St Paul’s Cathedral to my itinerary, but gave up. Hopefully this will come in time.

Loving the new update

I’ve been really enjoying the new Lonely Planet app. It makes finding reliable recommendations super easy. I love that I don’t have to wait through endless search results. The guides are really well curated practical and genuinely useful when planning for a trip or exploring some more new.

Response from developer

Thank you for the 5 stars! We’re thrilled our new app is improving your travels. Our local writers work hard to make sure recommendations feel authentic and worth your time. We’re continuing to add new features and destinations regularly and are grateful you've joined us on this journey.

THANK YOU

THANK YOU LONELY PLANET FOR CREATING THIS APP!! I’ve loved Lonely Planet guide books for years, and can always trust that I will get amazing recommendations. However, it would be a huge investment to get physical copies of all books related to your destination (i.e. Japan). This app is the perfect solution, and I am so excited that I’ll get to have all guides with me during my travels. I would 100% pay a monthly membership fee to have access to all of Lonely Planet’s content.

As a side note, the app design is beautiful. Colors, typography, photography, all perfect!

Too hard to add an itinerary

Just not worth the effort, poorly designed and not intuitive.

Disappointing

Nothing here that you can’t find online for free. Bring back the original format guides with strategic and logistic info about transport options and costs.

Great travel advice!!

This was a great app for my trip.

Looks beautiful

So much bad looking travel advice out there, I love the articles and the design and photography on this app

Turns daydreaming into an actual plan

Been using LP's books for years and figured the app would just be a glorified PDF. Nope. The guides actually have a point of view, so I'm not stuck scrolling through 40 things to do, restaurants, and accommodations that all look the same. And the advice is actionable too: I go from "oh that looks cool" to a day-by-day itinerary.

The AI guide thing won me over too. Asked it for a half-day near my hotel with good coffee and not much walking, and it gave me a real plan, not generic junk. You can tell it's pulling from the actual guides, and the recommendations come from real people. Pretty much the only travel app I use for planning and while I'm on the trip, not just dreaming about one.

Finally a Travel Super App

I’ve long been a fan of Lonely Planet since my first international trip post college. Really pleased to see handy versions of the guides and travel intel in a digital, portable format. Really strong for inspiration and planning with solid recs for itineraries… looking forward to see how they build on this!

Loved using this during trips!

I always trust recs from lonely planet, especially because I know they come from real travelers. I used the app for a quick check on places to see & where to eat during my trip to New Zealand and loved having everything in one place. The itinerary builder is great too, excited to keep coming back to plan future trips & get travel inspo.

Hopefully it will quickly make a travel planning fun and easy

Love Lonely Planet guides, I understand this is a new app but disappointed to type in a location and have 4 suggestions show with no way to easily search all the dots on the map view.

Definitely needs work to compete with other similar sites. Hopefully will be able to.

Sign-up didn’t work

I tried to sign up by creating a password, and my attempt was refused. Please work out bugs….
