A Museum
Using LookUp is like stepping into an art museum for words. Its images and typography are bright and welcoming—nobody needs a map to navigate—and I have frequented its galleries for many years now. I have curated my own collections from books I’ve read, loving some and saving others.
The Notes feature has allowed me to make my own contributions. I can record where I first stumbled across each new word. Gaskell, Elliot, Wordsworth, and Keats are a few recent authors and poets that your app has helped me navigate, and they also walk its galleries.
I am curious to see where the creativity and curation will go next.

Very Mixed Results
I think the app is great. The content and presentation are great. I runs flawlessly on my iPad and my iPhone. I have three different Mac computers. It errors every time I try to open it on all three machines. It has been this way from the start. I’ve written twice to the developer, Squircle Apps LLP. It has been over a month and I’ve never received a response. An online search indicates this is a known problem. The app needs to be fixed or the developer needs to quit advertising they support Mac. It is a lie.

Traduction en français
Incompréhensible. Toutes les langues les plus, utilisée sauf le français. Et ce depuis des années de demande au développeur. 1 étoile donc.
Do not bother
Everything is behind a paywall. Even their “free” word of the day is paywalled after 2 days. Will be switching to a different word of the day app. One that isn’t so greedy
Best Dictionary App
Five stars! The UI is clean, but the real value is in the Word of the Day. It’s helped me expand my vocabulary naturally without feeling like I’m studying. Highly recommend for students, professionals, or anyone who just loves words!
The absolute best
This app was obviously created by somebody who loves etymology and vocabulary. This is a proper, fully featured dictionary and thesaurus, but the way that everything is presented is absolutely amazing for exploring the language and learning something new every single day. I have the widget added and the notifications activated, because it’s always so much fun learning new words. The way that they are presented is memorable and thematic as well. Thank you so kindly for this app.

Very disappointed
I was disappointed to see that almost every feature on this app, like the tests and review quizzes, were locked behind “LookUp+.” I eventually settled for just using the word of the day widget, and it worked, but after two days, it expired, and became locked until I purchased the upgrade, meaning I could do literally nothing, and the app became a huge advertisement for “LookUp+.”

Deleting
The app manages to somehow keep launching itself even though I have removed it from login items. I have contacted the developer about this but have had nothing back after three weeks. I find the apps behaviour very irritating so will be deleting once this review is submitted.
Free version bad paid is $10
The free version is a disgrace. Like 2 times it will give you the word of the day for free and that’s it. After that better be ready to pay 10 bucks just to get random words once a day.
In addition, this app pretends like it has other features, but you have to freaking subscribe. All in all this app is somewhere worth the money or your time for the free version

Excellent Dictionary
And stellar support! The issue I had on my iPad mini was resolved really quickly
app crashes after audio preview button is pressed
happens on my iPad mini 6
EDITED: was not aware of lifetime option
Bought the lifetime sub because I consider this to be like a physical book but that is constantly updated and I enjoy the word of the day. Did not like the yearly subscription but was a fan of the lifetime once they graciously pointed it out as an option.
A Daily Anchor
I enjoy having a simple word of the day to reflect on. The app is uncluttered and easy to use, and it’s nice to have a quick, reliable dictionary when I need it. The daily word often ends up connecting to my life in unexpected ways.
I love this app and the Siri Shortcuts that it works with
But, I just would love if it worked more consistently with saving words to a custom collection using the Shortcuts, as the Shortcut often crashes or doesn’t compete that part once it tries to add the word I got the definition for to the collection.
I also want to mention that the widget that has the ‘speak aloud’ feature to pronounce the word also skips the word when I press it, and I’d really love it if it only spoke it aloud so I can do it multiple times before pressing the actual skip button (or shuffle button). If I do get multiple times to have it speak aloud, it then skips multiple words immediately on its own, which is annoying. Please fix this as well!

Bad APP for Apple Watch - Better now 2026-01-21 👇
I’ve had this app for three years now. It been always a problem for my Apple Watch. I mean that I have some problem with the possibility to hear the pronunciation and also now crashed all the time. So, I switched to Miriam Webster‘s dictionary and I have the good definition and no problem except the pronunciation is just an iPhone. I hope this review help you.
2026-01-21: I just got an email telling they resolved the problem (v.12.0.3). Actually, it works well (listening the pronunciation) on my Apple Watch, for now. Thanks!

Money wasted
They’ve improved this app so that it has become nearly impossible to look up words, save them and build vocabulary lists. I like to get my money back. Don’t waste yours! Don’t waste time trying to add your nickname cause you can’t!
Strange app
What a really weird app, I downloaded this a long time ago to learn some words than forgot about it, now it sends me a notification about once a month for the exact same word, and I finally clicked into the app and literally everything is pay-walled… for an app to learn new words… they want $10 a month… for a word a day… insane.

Word of the day wingers
Loved this app and the widget for a long but now they want you to pay a subscription for something that’s been free. Disappointing, I’ll be finding something better.
Want you to pay for add-ons?
Very misleading. Thought I was getting more, but after getting into the site for the, the add-ons were extra
