Version 7.4: great timer app + how to make it better

NOTE: This review is about the paid version.

PROS:
Looks beautiful, as if it was made by Apple.

Lots of sound options for each timer’s start, finish, interval, and reset - including the option to have no sound.

When there are multiple timers, you can tap on the timer’s circle to highlight the timer’s data on the left-side, and vice versa.

You can set any timer to infinity cycles, so that it only stops when you end it.

The iOS apps can sync with the Mac app using iCloud, so that each app always has the same timers.

The paid version is a one-off payment, instead of a subscription model which I avoid like the plague.

The paid version is worth it - plenty of options for each timer: sounds, icons, colours. Make each timer look and act how you want.

Support for dark mode, which is easier on the eyes.

Works in landscape mode and portrait mode.

The developer responds to reviews - for example, a bug mentioned in a previous version was squashed.

Regular updates to squash bugs and improve the app.

HOW TO MAKE IT BETTER:

Why is there a “Forward” button and a “Rewind” button? Don’t they both restart the timer? Just have “Restart.”

Make all the buttons visible so that we can just tap on them instead of having to tap “...” and then tap a second button.

Change the buttons from circles to rectangles with rounded-corners - that way they're bigger and easier to push.

Add red as a colour option.

Offer a trial-version so that we can try all the options of the paid-app before paying for it.

CONCLUSION: A great app, with a little room for improvement - 5 stars.

A subscription for a timer is just not worth it.

While I don’t mind paying for software and I am subscribed to journal apps, budgeting apps etc, a subscription for a timer or even a one time fee is really ludicrous. That is obviously subjective but what really triggered me was the fact that the app is not upfront that it is an exclusive paid app.

On the free version there’s negative functionality. Instead of being allowed to run a loop for maybe 5-10 times for free they let it run just once. Thats just a normal timer right? Not a loop timer. Well no- a normal timer tells you how many seconds or minutes you have left. They hid the one timer behind a paywall.

Wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. People do owe developers for their time and their projects but this is just incredibly ill conceived.

Except bug, good.

There is a bug where Live Activities do not appear when running shortcuts via automation.

For example, when running a timer or similar action via a shortcut, the Live Activity does not appear. You must actually open the Loop app for the Live Activity to work.
In other apps that use Live Activities, when I run a shortcut via automation, the Live Activity appears automatically without having to open the app. Please fix this bug.
Other than that, it works well

Finally a persistent timer app that syncs and record data for a perfect pomodoro

I really like it, presets offer a lot of customizations. The only improvement I would say is to add an option to sync either to “workout” or “mindfulness” for better categorization, and give a name to the session instead of just “Other”.

Not what I wanted

I wanted an interval timer. It isn’t that. It is just a timer just like the native clock app. Not worth the time or any money at all.

Clean looks + clever functionality

Great app which accomplishes a lot with a little. It’s getting better with each update thanks to the developers continuing to take on feedback and improve the app.

terrible programming

sure you can program a series of rounds of different times for "move/rest" intervals BUT they all look the same when playing - the name of the interval doesn't show and you can't change the color like green for MOVE and red for REST or whatever you like for that. Also to change from a strange AI voice nonsensical sentence for the "default sound" you need to go to the paid version - noone would ever use the free version. Also if you want to change the name of the preset - only paid version - that is ok but let's have a free trial to test this out before going to the paid version

amazing app, one small suggestion

one time payment, simple, easy to understand. you can make your own timer. it works perfectly for me

but the only thing is that i wish there was a warning beep at around 5 seconds, sometimes its a bit jarring to switch from one exercise to another but i wont let this drop the score

Великолепный таймер!

Но в режиме loop очень не хватает отображения числа прошедших повторов

Please add count of loops after start loop mode timer

"Loop Has Been Terminated"

I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

Response from developer

Hi there, thanks for your message. This really should not happen. Could you send an email with your device model and iOS version? I will take a closer look and I’m sure that we will find a solution together.

Agree it looks great, but…

It produces a faint but unpleasant clicking sound after the first alert. I would also like to be able to click and drag the timer forward and back. The next/previous timer buttons should also be shown, rather than hidden, in my opinion. It could be a great app, but need a few tweaks please!

Awesome!

Best app I’ve found in a while. I’ve been looking for a routine timer app: with a one-time purchase option, Apple Watch Support, and Live Activities. So the extras like natural language input, the cool advanced timer screen, and customization options go bananas. So, I’m thrilled. Great work! I would love to see a more refined home interface, maybe a list option instead of the orbs and their containers? That would be awesome. Anyway, top-tier app.

Perfect simple timer

Perfect simple visual timer for my needs. One can see the time elapse over the circle. It's also easy to add any timer you need to or modify presets.

Nice design, but a user cannot edit the loops!

I give congrats to the developer, I think this application has a nice design, user interface in general terms, I like that I can choose the colors and the sounds. Nevertheless, a big drawback is that the user cannot seem to edit the existing loops. Please fix that and way more people will start using this.

Not accurate at all

Every loop delay two seconds

Looks promising, but …

I’m slightly surprised that this has got into the App Store in its current state. Menus to select timers are truncated so as to be unreadable - which just makes the app seem unfinished, and pretty much impossible to use. And the app makes an irritating chiming sound for no apparent reason while trying to set up a timer.

Pay once model, I love it

To the sad person who left a 3 star review complaining about a paid version, I want to ask you, do you like getting paid for your work or do you work for free?
The free version of this app works great, there’s a very cheap pay once upgrade that it was worth it for me. I hate subscriptions but I always try to purchase the pay once upgrade from apps I like.

Free version is sad.

You have to pay just to get basic features.

Response from developer

Hi there, I can understand your frustration. What you may not know is that developing and maintaining Loop was years of work. I know that we live in a world where people assume that everything online should be free. As a compromise, I decided not to introduce a subscription to Loop. I hope that you can understand my point of view. Have fun using the app!
