A Disappointing Entry from Phillip Glenn
I’ve been a fan of Glenn’s work for awhile now, Call Baby and Call Pizza are some of my favorites, nobody will deny their status as classics. This new app of his, however, did not live up to my expectations.
First off, there’s no calling. No calling from anybody, no baby, no pizza, not even any cats. No funny pranks for friends. Nothing. Sure, if Phillip wants to experiment, he’s got every right to do so. That being said, I think he got overly ambitious trying to make a fully fledged dating simulator, and I believe he should stick to what he knows best.
There is a clear lack of character development in this game, something which is surprising when you remember this is the same man who made Call Baby, which had 3 different babies to call you, all with their own unique motives and reasons for doing so. Here? We don’t have any of that. It’s some… women? Who sometimes talk to men? You don’t even see the men, how would I decide to talk to them without seeing what they look like!?! And what are the women’s motives in talking to them? We just don’t know, so I find it hard to get immersed in the world this game tries to create.
All in all, while this game can still potentially provide a couple hours of enjoyment for someone looking for a simple, heart-warming love journey, it is a disappointment for Glenn’s true fans and I hope he makes up for it by making Call Pizza 2.
