Great!

Thank you! This is the start of the next chapter of LUMA. Glad you’re onboard!
Trying to make it my go to camera app
In manual mode, setting the shutter speed to the longest setting breaks the check button. The app starts lagging and the shutter speed button stops working entirely. Happens on iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Thank you for your review. Yes, this is a know issue that I’m fixing - currently the app waits for the next frame to be received from the camera until the UI of the camera screen updates… not the best approach for 1s shutter speeds. Am optimising this together with support for longer shutter speeds (>30s).
Cool I guess
Pretty good, but some issues.
Response from developer
First of all, thank you for the kind words and the review. I am working on a comprehensive set of “guided tutorials” that will make learning the app easy; ideally there wouldn’t be a tutorial required, but there are a few concepts that are unique to LUMA. Thanks and stay tuned!
Slow and buggy
The whole import, develop selected, added to gallery workflow is just irritating, when it works which is about half the time.
Nice UI.
Editing is painful as even on my 17 Pro you’ll try and adjust something and it won’t adjust, then suddenly it’ll adjust far too much due to severe lag on any of the dots especially the EDR. You will change something, then whilst changing something else the thing you previously changed will suddenly take effect meaning you never have any idea of what your edits are doing.
Importing (pro)Raw files may work or it may crash and you still have to do the irritating import to gallery after I’ve just imported it so due to this weird workflow you have to import it twice to get it into the gallery to edit it, assuming it doesn’t crash.
UPDATED FOR LUMA 4 - An excellent camera app that made a DSLR user with their iPhone camera more
This app is by far the best of any I’ve tried and it’s made me a lot more willing to take photos with my phone camera.
Normally I wouldn’t bother taking pictures on my phone even if I didn’t have my camera with me as I really didn’t like the lack of control vs a DSLR, but LUMA has the full manual I want, along with presets (although at the moment does not have pre-made presets) and an editor. If you don’t like the options available, you can take the RAW files to your computer and play around with them in your editor of choice.
It’s an excellent app with so much versatility, whether shooting manual like me or someone shooting much more casually, there’s something here for every level of photographer who wants more from their shooting experience than the default camera app.

Hi there, thank you for your review! As of 4.0.1, LUMA behaves exactly as you would like, with the opportunity to revert to the previous tap-to-expose behaviour in the Settings screen. Enjoy!
Difficult
- I don’t know where to look for camera switching.
- the difficulty of safe the image into the gallery.
Pros:
Design and noise preservation
Most functional free camera app with actual controls
UPDATED REVIEW FOR LUMA 4 - A very nice update with a small annoyance
Thank you for all the effort put into this, it’s wonderful overall and it’s been my go-to camera app for a while now!
Response from developer
Thank you! I think you’ll be extra pleased with LUMA 4, coming as a free update really soon in that case.
The best editing and shooting app on the AppStore right now
What a beautiful feature rich app
Just needs one more thing

Great app
Response from developer
Thanks! There isn’t an aperture setting because all iPhone lenses are fixed aperture - other apps that provide this setting do software blurring instead and try to simulate this with a “portrait mode”, however then it is no longer a raw photo. If Apple adds variable aperture lenses in future iPhones, LUMA will have this feature for sure!
UI is broken, profiles are hiding at the bottom of the screen
Waste of money.
Response from developer
Seems to be a recent update to iOS that has broken this interaction - will fix shortly - raf
