Clean layout. Terrible functionality

App layout is nice. There are multiple missing functionalities that I have had to turn to the internet for. The product Israeli would get less than 1 star. Very disappointed. Would not purchase again.

no longer functioning

this app no longer works. no support, no help...

Run away. Company abandoned this.

Luma was sold to another company and they let this die.

Horrible

Not even an email or alert for the customers.

Luma is now abandonware

As others have mentioned, Luma as a company no longer exists. First Alert bought them in January of 2018 and promptly stopped releasing new firmware updates. Just a week before they announced the aquisition of Luma, First Alert released their own mesh WiFi system. I suspect Luma was bought for their intellectual property and/or engineering staff, and that First Alert had no intention of supporting the Luma system.

In the last few weeks my Lumas APs have been constantly dropping WiFi connectivity. One minute my phone is online and getting 300 Mbps on a speed test, the next minute it has no WiFi and I can’t even see my SSID, the next minute I’m back online. I called First Alert customer support and they said, “after 3-5 years your Luma devices are nearing the end of their life.” What? These things are all solid state components, why would they suddenly stop working? It’s more likely that First Alert is no longer interested in spending money supporting Luma and fixing problems. But hey, he did pitch me on buying First Alert’s own mesh WiFi system. Fool me once...

Don’t bother

Ever since luma was bought out, there has been a lack of updates for the hardware and app. You’re better off with a well known router brand like Netgear, linksys, google, etc.

Abandoned product?

*The Good*
WiFi coverage is solid.

You can prioritize a device, such as your family Roku/TV.

*The Bad*
No PPPoE authentication, so if your fiber internet uses this you get to connect Luna to an old router.

The security network scan feature is not helpful. If a device has 1,000 entries, you can’t just dismiss them all. No, you’d have to manually swipe-delete each one.

UI-wise, they have No Dark Mode. Small grey text on a white background is hard to read.

*The Ugly*
I paid for premium support (5$ a month) and ticket requests are often ignored. Cancelled premium.

The VPN service doesn’t work. Rather than notify customers, I had to ask why it doesn’t work and was told they are negotiating with service providers to resolve the issue. I wonder how many people think the are in “stealth mode” when they aren’t?

Lack of customer communication as to what features work, don’t work now, or have been abandoned.

Promised core features that were advertised, like knowing where your kids have been online, were never delivered.

WiFi was great until it wasn’t

Tech support is horrible - every time I get someone on the phone, the call dies out. I have tried reaching out thru the app and no luck. I do not think they are maintaining this application any longer. The app is even worse and hasn’t been updated in over a year. My Luma keeps saying offline so I did a hard reset but when I try to access app to set it up again I get kicked out of app within 2 seconds. I do not recommend this product.

Dead product

The WiFi works and the app has some nice, albeit limited features. Unfortunately, the app and the Luma devices themselves haven’t seen any updates in over a year. I’m convinced this is dead product. If you’re considering a purchase, you may want to look elsewhere.

Luna

This app is terrible, I don’t recommend, the wifi doesn’t get thru my whole 2 story house and we have 5 of them.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE UPDATE THIS APP!!!

I’m using the Luma app on my iPhone XR and it doesn’t fit the screen! Also, things all over the place are buggy and out-of-place. You have to dig to find settings that should be right there!! I love my Luma, but the lackluster app that controls it totally ruins the experience.

So please, listen to the people who spent good money on their Luma’s and update the app. We would all be forever grateful! 🙌

No updates in over a YEAR

If you’re going to sell a product and market it as safe, how can it be safe without consistent updates? While it seems to operate effectively, the lack of updates is sorely disappointing, especially considering the numerous alternatives out there that do.

First alert

First alert, if you're serious about acquiring this company how about develop some updates. People are going to flee away from this product unless it stays current.

Getting Worse, Getting Worse, Getting Worse

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I don’t mind the app. It’s not great, but when it actually connects, it works fine.

The devices are garbage. I’ve had two of five fail already and the ones that still “work” go down constantly, three to four times a day. It’s frustrating and I’m out.

Anyone wanna buy some crappy WiFi equipment?

Spotty at best

Unfortunately, we have the original Luma and also added two additional nodes. All five nodes are in a ranch style home and we STILL experience spotty coverage. I am terribly disappointed but we’ve spent too much to just toss them, right? Hopefully, the software will be updated in the future to make this purchase worthwhile.

Is this company still in business?

No app updates for over 1yr. Unacceptable!!

Bugs in the app like I cannot get rid of one of the devices that isn’t on my network - but keeps showing up.

Firmware of Luma pods hasn’t been updated either. Think this company is not doing well. Website is still up but nothing looks recent or up to date.

Broken links

The app is great until you need to troubleshoot. You get sent dead links and forced to wait several minutes between messages from customer service.

Unstable.

Connections constant going in and out. Have to call them everytime to complain, they do something on the back and and it works great for a weak and then back to normal. Not enough advanced configuration capabilities and no real future suppose anymore

Great start, but failed on execution

The premise was solid—mesh WiFi without all the knobs to turn. When it works, it’s great. But the Luma devices fail and have issues, and the company hasn’t/doesn’t fix or update. Their support does not respond to calls and can only read from their VERY small FAQ when it comes to answers.

Bought these as a pre-order but I have to switch in order to get reliable WiFi in my house.

Retarded App

No overview of the network infrastructure. No option to monitor package or viewing the WAN IP address.

Don’t buy these Mesh Routers!
