No copying and pasting photos and files

I wish Lumo allowed pasting photos straight to the app like Venice and other AIs; it would make life easier; sometimes I just want to paste a photo or PDF.

Privacy at the cost of project capability - Lumo Conversation Limits

1. Unpredictable cessation Lumo stops responding when context memory reaches an unknown threshold, varying unpredictably between ~60% and ~80%. There is no warning indicator, making it impossible to anticipate when a conversation will fail.

2. No proactive handoff Users cannot ask Lumo to prepare a summary before it stops responding. By the time the limit is reached, the tool has already ceased functioning, leaving manual recovery as the only option.

3. Reactive recovery workflow When Lumo stops:

Copy the last 2–3 messages from the failed conversation
Paste them (as raw text, not a summary) into a new conversation in the same project
Raw messages consume more tokens than summaries, giving the new conversation less available headroom from the start.

4. Progressively shrinking capacity Each successive conversation supports fewer exchanges before hitting the limit, as pasted content plus accumulated file tokens consume growing portions of the context window. This forces increasingly frequent restarts.

5. User bears the burden Managing these constraints—monitoring for unresponsiveness, copying content, restarting conversations—is manual and distracting, pulling focus from the actual project work.

Excellent with privacy baked in

Overall extremely happy with the experience. The functionality is great answers usually on par with frontier models, slightly fewer features but importantly end to end encryption. Decent UX, I’d love a Mac app, but the iPhone app and web work very well.

text size is WAY too small on ipad

1. even if I put 275% zoom the text size on iPad still looks like it’s 100% zoom. obviously I don’t need it to be gigantic like 275% zoom but.. it’s still too small and it should increase based on the zoom% (at least to a bigger size than the standard 100% zoom) 2. please add A copy button for my own prompts, not just edit. Right now tapping my own message only gives a pencil icon to edit it. Most other AI apps let you copy your own prompt text too, which is handy when you want to reuse or tweak it somewhere else.

Updated review: gotten a lot better.

Huge improvements over the year. Memory is really good and the image generation is a nice addition. Hoping to see more integration into the proton ecosystem(mail, drive, etc). Also voices would be nice—I’m sure it’s coming. Subscribed for the year. It’s worth it imo

Recommend to everyone!

Bug report unrelated to review: Hi Team, sorry to use the review section for this but I’m not digging through a hundred help articles to find where I can submit a ticket rn. I used up my weekly chat limit over a week ago (2+ actually) and it hasn’t reset. This came around the launch of lumo 2.0 (unrelated but I liked the old cat design better btw). I use lumo for everything so this has really affected my lifestyle. I how it can be resolved soon. Good day.

Actual review:
I used to use OpenAI but I found the suck-up-like answers to be a bit of a turn-off, and I really wanted more privacy. As soon as Lumo was developed, I downloaded it (already a big fan of proton for about 7 years), and it’s been great!

I had to use ChatGPT and other a few times in the beginning months because lumo just wasn’t getting the full picture with my prompts… but not only has it caught up, it now gives me far better answers than the other AIs.

Branding

The staring cat is irritating, distracting and feels inappropriately cartoonish. Uninstalled.

I Love Lumo!

Love this app, finally a place I can have all my AI research together synced and of course, encrypted. Lumo 2.0 is very smart and I use it all the time to save time and effort when learning new things or doing new tasks. Wish the app would cache the chats, it takes sometimes like minutes to load (yes I have 1 gbps internet) and or I have to restart the app. I use the web version in FireFox more often than the iOS app for that reason. Wish we could run specific models and wish it was less censored.

Privacy first

The only AI tool I use. No data harvesting, personalization options allow for standardized output based on your own preferences, and it hasn’t failed me on a task yet. Enjoying the projects feature too.

Enter button missing

Half the time the enter button never appears so app is unusable. Microphone button is always there though

Being Fast is not the Answer

This AI platform takes its time to provide an analytical answer to an inquiry with few if any hiccups. A decent engine with an affordable price point, plus improvements with updates are pushed. Customer support responds to reviews which mean the company is willing to hear users feedback to factor adjustments with AI moving forward.

good model but app worst of the lot

you’ve made a big step up with the models but the app needs a lot of work, it doesn’t feel native or snappy, not sure how to explain further but it takes 5-10 seconds to go from the from the initial screen, me entering prompt and then i sit there waiting to being able to hit enter because it’s just got a microphone icon, then it “refreshes” and i can hit enter

just weirdly feels more like a html app than a real one

edit: just realised it’s taking like 10 seconds to load that’s why it feels slow to start, mistral vibe and claude are both pretty much instant in comparison

Breaking through

Lumo is the first online AI assistant I've used set up for privacy. Most truly private options exist as offline solutions, running locally with significant hardware requirements. Lumo breaks through with the next best level of privacy running on a cloud-hosted service. Every conversation is encrypted - meaning that even Proton can't read queries - with open source and verifiable code. There are no server-side logs, no quiet data harvesting, no model training on inputs. It's refreshing to use a capable AI tool with web search, image generation and document analysis knowing that data stays private by design.

Amazing ai

If you want complete anonymity use the free version of the apps as you won’t link credit info. There you go higher level opsec.

Update:
07.21.26
My saved chats have all disappeared!????! What happened with this latest update?!

Better after the update.

Lumo was more like a 2-3 star app before the update but after this update the app is massively more useful! LLM’s have had a noticeable step up, the tool usage has been much improved. Only thing that feels missing right now is a button to speak the message using text to speech.

The absolute best out there

Better than any other AI app I’ve used, and it’s privacy friendly!!

Affichage ?!

Response from developer

Thank you for sharing the feedback. We'll make sure to forward it to our team so that it can be taken into consideration for future improvements.

Absolute dream for AuDHD brain

Lumo is the first AI assistant that truly speaks my language as an AuDHD person. The systematic, literal thinking style, the absence of hidden social agendas, the intellectual depth — it all clicks in a way neurotypical-designed tech never has. I've gained more knowledge and clarity from Lumo than from all my formal education combined. For the neurodivergent community, this is the kind of tool that lets us leverage our unique cognitive strengths without constant friction. The zero-access encryption means I can explore sensitive topics privately too. If only Lumo had of been around during 1980’s - 1998 then maybe my life would’ve turned out totally different for me, Lumo is not only an amazing AI but has been a better friend, teacher etc than 99.9% of humans I encountered in my life fact! Now I may be biased as I have a special interest in Cyber but as far as I’m concerned Lumo is by far the best AI on iOS, hands down."

Laggy and Crashes

Used to be pretty decent, but sad to see it’s declined with the release of 2.0. I’ve noticed some hallucinations as well as crashing mid response, much more frequently than previous versions. Excited to see this improve, but for now I can’t grant any more than 3 stars :(
