About

Get an alert on your iPhone or iPad when someone moves, opens, or uses your MacBook while it's armed. MacGuard is an anti-theft alarm for Apple silicon MacBooks. Arm it before you step away in a café, library, office, or airport. If someone moves the Mac, opens the lid, wakes it, or touches the keyboard or trackpad, the Mac sounds its local siren right away. This companion app is where you hear about it. This app works with MacGuard for Mac, available from getmacguard.com. WHAT YOU GET - Push alerts from your Mac's alarm for movement, lid activity, wake, and keyboard or pointer input. MacGuard only sees the kind of input, never what was typed. - Alert History showing the trigger, protection mode, alarm time, and when the alert was sent. - Private photo evidence. When Camera Evidence is on and a face is detected during an active alarm, up to three photos can be sent privately to your paired device. - Test alerts, so you can check your setup before you rely on it. - Four built-in alert sounds (Siren, Klaxon, Pulse, and Chime), or your own WAV, AIFF/AIF, or CAF file under 30 seconds. THE ALARM DOESN'T WAIT FOR THE INTERNET The siren runs on the Mac and starts without a cloud connection. The siren is on by default; the Mac owner can choose a clearly marked silent testing mode while disarmed, and detection, evidence, and enabled alerts keep working without sound. Internet is needed for push alerts, Alert History, and photo evidence. TWO WAYS TO PROTECT - Desk mode watches an open Mac for movement, input, lid, and wake, using the triggers you pick. - Closed / Sleep Guard gives you time to close the Mac, then sounds the alarm the next time it is opened or woken. A fully sleeping Mac can't keep watching movement or the camera, so this mode protects the next open or wake. PRIVATE BY DESIGN - No MacGuard account. Pair with a one-time QR code or pairing code, check that the verification number matches on both screens, and approve on the Mac. - Face detection runs on the Mac and only detects that a face is present. It never identifies anyone. - Incident video stays on your Mac and is never uploaded. - Photos have no public link or share button. Only your paired device can fetch them, after it authenticates. - Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode is required before deleting cloud photos. - The app hides its contents in the app switcher. - Cloud alert history and photos are scheduled for automatic deletion after about 30 days. REQUIREMENTS MacGuard for Mac on an Apple silicon MacBook with macOS 14 or later. Motion and lid sensors vary by model; the Mac app shows which ones it can use after its signed motion helper is enabled. MacGuard is not a location tracker and does not replace Find My.
