Mahjong Demon XL
This is the only true Japanese Mahjong App that I have discovered since the days of Shanghai Second Dynasty, that was purchased to work with Windows 98 and XP that had a choice of different types of the Mahjong board games. My Mahjong expert friend concedes that the game is good except for the addition of the red five as a Dora yaku. He insists that the true Japanese Mahjong does not use the red five tile for an additional yaku. Now, the old laptop with XP OS will be put to rest. Old Timer

Best I’ve seen in a long time
Whilst not the greatest digital version of mahjong I’ve seen, it’s far and away the best version using Japanese scoring in the American App Store. Not only that but it’s the simple things like actually using the correct Japanese terminology (pon, kan, chi, etc) instead of Chinese terms (pung, kong, chow, etc) which makes a real difference when playing. I would like to see an English version of the rules and scoring but if you already understand this is a good app for you.

Good Game, but bugs are annoying
It’s the best Japanese mahjong game around, but a recent update or something make the background a large pass button. So if you have big fingers and select Ron but half your finger also touched the background - it passes instead of winning.
Very frustrating.
Also is there a way to make the background a solid colour?

Something is wrong.
Big problem.
The game doesnt allow me to "pon" ... The other 3 players go quickly and dont stop till my turn. No point in playing if can't pon or chi.

"HELP" instructions needs a better translation for English
It seems like their instructions were taken off of a computer translator. Very difficult to understand. The game itself is quick and has great graphics and I like it. I've played Four Winds Mahjongg and it is great. There is some kind of rule that, under certain circumstances, does not give you the win even though you do have the 4 melds and the pair. I cannot find the answer as to why this happens. Frustrating! If their instructions were better translated I would give it a higher rating.

A great mahjong app
Just get it <:
Very Solid Japanese Mahjong!
While I'm far from a Mahjong expert, the AI sure seems competent and can actually score some pretty specialized hands. The interface is very intuitive and I love how it uses (or at least gives the option for) the Western tile set. It also keeps decent statistics. Some of the documentation suffers from a bit of poor translation but it's still fairly followable.

Latest Update Problematic
Last version incorrectly labeled North and East tiles. This update fixes that, but player to my right won't make available tiles that complete pongs. Maybe I'm missing something, but this didn't happen before. Ruins the app. I hope this bug is fixed, like yesterday because I really loved this app before this update.

MahJong XL
Excellent app, everything works flawlessly! The rules are correct as per the Japanese 'Riichi' style and the AI is challenging. Big thank you to the developer, I have been looking for a REAL MahJong app for ages from the sea of solitaire apps and this is the best English language one available! 5 Stars.

Nice!
I recently learnt Riichi/Japanese mahjong because there aren't any decent Chinese or Taiwanese mahjong apps in the ipad or iphone app stores. So as a newcomer to Riichi, I can't judge accurately on the skill of the ai, but the interface of this app is well designed. I have both the Xl ipad and smaller iphone version and I prefer the ipad version as you can see your opponents' discards easily.
