Best mahjong game for beginners

I really like this game, it’s very easy to use and quick to learn. The tiles are so beautiful. The game offers multiple gorgeous tile sets and mats designed by Miss Mahjong and Bespoke Mahjong — each one beautifully crafted and a joy to play with. Thank you for creating this amazing app.

Discarded a joker without my permission

Everything was going along swimmingly and then something happened. It was my turn. I hesitated for approximately 1-1/2 seconds, and the next thing I knew, the game had discarded one of my jokers without my telling it to! I was blown away. I pressed everything I could trying to get it back, but of course that was not possible. I have no idea what happened there, but I mean really? I’ve lost confidence in this app.

We're truly sorry this happened to you. Let me explain what occurred. You were playing in Ranked Match, where you're matched with real plyaers. To keep the game fair and avoid long waits for everyone, each turn has a 15‑second timer. If you don't make a move within those 15 seconds, the system automatically discards the most recent tile you drew . For longer thinking time, we highly recommend Practice Mode – there is no timer there, so you can take all the time you need. Thank you for sharing this frustrating experience. We'll also review the timer warning to make it more noticeable.

Great Game!

One of the best Mahjongg games available. Worth the $7 a month, especially if you are new to the game. The beginner area has you build hands from the card and then checks your results. This is very helpful for beginners to understand reading the card.

My favorite of the Mahjongg apps

I love this app. Love that you can doing the practice module or competitive. I hope that you add in The Big Card as an option in addition to the NMJL official cards

Are these really real people?

Theoretically we are in ranked matches against real people but I am not sure about that. At any time day or night are there really real people? Or do bots fill in?

The app itself is fine.

My one critique is that it prompts you for joker exchange and to declare mah jong. That is not very realistic but apart from that it is fine.

Thank you for your review. To clarify, the vast majority of opponents in Ranked Match are real players; only during off‑peak hours, if matchmaking takes too long, the system may add a few bots to help you start a game faster, and those bots are clearly marked with a bot avatar. As for the joker exchange and Mahjong prompts, they are designed to help new players, but I will consider adding corresponding toggle buttons in Settings to meet the needs of advanced players for a more realistic experience. I had to walk away for about 3 minutes and the app had closed down to the logon screen again.

Great on a small screen

I selected this app because it is easy to see on a phone or small iPad. I like that it has practice modes & live play. The voices of the bots are easy to hear and sound very nice. The graphics are lovely and let me follow the game just like at a real table. I would LOVE to see a pause button on the games though because actual life does happen like doorbells, kids and mischievous kittens who need immediate help. In a real game at home players would understand if you stepped away for these things.

Thank you for the great suggestion! In live Ranked Matches, a pause button would interrupt other players — but you can use Practice Mode or create your own table with Timer OFF to step away anytime without pressure.

This app was really great. They now try to force you to subscribe. Your gameplay is limited to 4 hands per day and they added ads. As a result of this game competition has weakened. Please do one or the other. Ads or game limits.

American Mahjong with NMJL, TBC, TMP options

Excellent app that runs smoothly, easy to learn how to play and looks pretty with the Bespoke tiles and mats. I like how there are not only the NMJL options to play but also TBC and TMP cards. Will consider subscribing to remove ads and have unlimited play.

Nice graphics

Fun game to play. You can play with bots or real people. The board looks like a regular mah Jongg game. A notification comes up any time you are able to pick up a tile, so you won’t miss one you need. The only thing I don’t like is sometimes you don’t have time to decide what tile to discard and they automatically throw one out for you.

Wonderful but….

Wonderful but if you want to play more than 4 games a day you must Pay! As a newbie to Mahjong, it would be helpful if I could play more to find out if it’s worth it.

Great game

This is the only online Mahjong I play…the set up appears just like my automatic table and feels like an in person game…also several play options (random gamers, bots, or set up your own table with friends)

Love this app!

Great app to play mahjong on! I love having 4 free games a day which is just the right amount for me to keep a daily practice and prevents me from spending the whole day playing mahjong! User friend and great interface
