About
Learn Japanese (riichi) mahjong from zero. MahjongQ takes you from "what is a tile?" to building winning hands, in Japanese or English.
LEARN: 12 short lessons
Tiles → the winning shape → how a game flows → tenpai and waits → yaku → ron, tsumo and furiten → calls (pon, chi, kan) → dora and scoring → defense → common rules and placement points → thinking at the table. Each chapter ends with a quick check and takes 3–8 minutes.
QUIZ: 6 types
• Tile names
• Spot the meld (run or triplet)
• What's the wait?
• Name the yaku
• What to discard? (graded by useful tiles, with an explanation)
• Score it (han and fu → points)
SOLO: tile-efficiency practice
A single-player exercise: draw one tile and discard one, for up to 18 turns, and try to reach tenpai or complete a hand. With hints on, each turn shows which discard keeps the most useful tiles, and why. Complete a hand by tsumo and you see its yaku, han and score. No opponents and no exchange of points.
REFERENCE: memorize the combinations
• Yaku catalog: 28 yaku with example hands and a memorize mode
• Tile catalog, score table, glossary
