THE METHOD - REFERENCE, OBSERVE, RECORD Reference. Begin with what was recorded: tonight's moon, its name, what the sources say it has meant for fishing, farming, and ceremony. Observe. Then close the screen and look up. What is the moon really doing here, tonight, where you stand? What are the wind, the water, the bird, and the plant telling you that only this moment can? Record. Write what you saw. Name your source - a kupuna, a text, or your own two eyes. Night after night, your own log becomes the authority you reach for first. Reference becomes observation, observation becomes record, record becomes knowing - until you no longer need to record. You just know. THE 30 NIGHTS - NA PO O KA MAHINA Every night of the Hawaiian lunar month has a name and a character. Hilo the new crescent, Hoku's full brightness, and the darkest night of Muku. Using the lunar calendar can point you toward the current Po, but only you can determine the truth by observing the actual indicator; the moon's natural cycle. A Hilo moon may never be observed from where you live, but a Hoku moon may. The calendar helps you predict what it may be, without telling you what it is. Once your observations are synced, you lock in better than any app. HILO HUNTERS Lock in on Hilo and you've locked in the rest of the cycle. The table calls out how likely a view is to see a Hilo moon setting. If one is not observed, then it may be a Muku night depending on the conditions. Sync the table to your actual location and see if you can catch a Hilo Moon for yourself on the Western Horizon, just before sunset.
