Top reviews

Just use Books.

Forces you to pay if you import more than 5 books. Just use Books unless you really need OPDS support.

Response from developer

This is not a fair comment. For the real story, please read the in-app OPDS entry "CX is CE with some limitation".

Disappointing

poor functionality and a pain to "import" and organize your books.

Response from developer

Can you be more specific as to what features you think are missing, and how books should be imported other than the half a dozen existing methods to do so? Thanks.

Opening of a local file on ipad pro

Please how is it possible to open a local file on my ipad pro? Also would it be possible to have the list of all the possible formats accepted? For instance, is azw3 ok? Thank you in advance.

Response from developer

As shown on the App Store description pages, MapleRead CX and CE supports ePub, while SE supports ePub and PDF. No azw3 or any other format support is mentioned. As long as the ePub file is not DRM'ed, the app can import it.

Good but…books on shelf too small on iPad mini

I am unable to read the titles on the the iPad mini as the books are way too small and there are not alterable and magnifying each one is a pain. If I was able to customise the books and shelf size I would buy the paid version.

The amount of customisation when reading the books is wonderful.

Note you are only able to read 5 books in this trial version.

Bonjour superbe application ,mais si on pouvais ecrire directement sur l'epub ça serait genial🥰

Workable but not entirely good

It takes a bit to get it to just simply read a book, but on the upside it handles custom fonts, and even RIBBI, right and with ease.

Big minus is that the page layout in continuous scroll cannot be changed. On an iPhone SE, the default margin is *way* too big, making for *very* short lines.

Leitor Maple

Excelente leitor com várias funções...maravilhoso

Good ePub reader .. but

It had a problem with ePub 3 file

Also all the books from Hindawi.org have an issue in MapleRead, but work well on other ebook apps.

Response from developer

◾️ Jan 24, 2024: Please update to version 5.3. Those Arabic books should work well with the bug fix. ◾️ Jan 15, 2024: Thank you for providing a concrete website, Hindawi.org, with lots of such EPUB test cases. (More interactive email correspondence is still preferred.) Apparently, hindawi.org is an Arabic website, and all books there are in Arabic. Arabic is written from right-to-left (rtl) instead of left-to-right (ltr) like English. It turns out that the app is indeed not well-tested for rtl languages in all reading views. However, it still works reasonably well in Modern Scroll view. Furthermore, you may turn off all switches under "Apply Theme Colors", if you don't want to override publisher's colors. ◾️ Dec 29, 2023: EPUB 3 is a very complex standard. The app may have bugs, or the books may not be fully compliant. Please try out some bundled EPUB 3 books from Sample Books. You are welcome to send us the books in question to help resolve this issue. Thanks.

Nice book reader doesn't support split view for ipad

A really nice app for reading epub just cannot use notes side by side and have limited annotation capabilities. Just text highlight...no underline strikethrough.
Hope the developers soon update the app for ipad

Response from developer

As stated in App Store description, CX is CE with some limitation. Split-view multitasking is one such limitation of CX, while CE and SE have no such limitation.

Devs are snippy.

Less cumbersome to get the side loading than I'd thought (the phrasing was throwing me), but very much do not want to give money to insulting responses. Blighted shame.

Response from developer

Apparently you're a fan of a long-abandoned app, and I can sympathize with your dissatisfaction with the Apple Store policy. Your stated requirement is actually quite basic, and has been addressed by the app since day one. But we have no idea of what you mean by "moving epubs to a separate folder". Please read the rather extensive in-app and online help too, especially on the topic of importing books. Actually, we think you're smart enough to figure it out, as long as you don't insist that they all have to be done exactly the old way you're used to. Cheers.

Too cumbersome to side load from Files.

My beloved Marvin app is not in the App Store anymore, so I am searching for a replacement for the day when the iOS makes it not run anymore. I require an app which will let me sideload epubs from downloaded files, sort by author (and not show all the books till I tap!), and allow me to change (or add) covers.

This one claims to do all three, but requires moving epubs to a separate folder? Other apps are not so finicky, and this cumbersome point of friction means I'm going to move on. I'll leave it on my phone, but until I can load epubs from the app, or by telling Files to download to the app, I don't think I'll use it. Pity.

Great app

MapleRead is the best reader app I’ve ever used. It loads with tons of features. To name a few: audio-book, beautiful cover view, adjustable UI text size, highly customizable, great library management, etc.

I bought MapleRead SE without any hesitation.

Unique & I recommend it

"Gentium Book Classic" is a gorgeous font! And this app offers the ability to add custom fonts. So satisfied that I purchased the full version SE.

great epub read app and some advice

in classic book model, there is a white margin at the page when I choose colored theme. I wonder to know if the theme color or background could cover the full page in classic book model, not just the text part.
I really like the app, and thanks for what you do for it.

Response from developer

Thanks. This issue will be addressed in a future release in this quarter.

Free ain’t free

A 3 book limit on importing local files makes this whole thing worthless, regardless of the nice features it may have.

Really good app

This is one of the best readers on IOS. Not sure why the low reviews. It has a lot of great features and the developer continues to improve it. Will be getting one of the premium versions shortly.

Can’t use two columns display

Even in landscape mode. This is not effective. Unable to read my comic books

Response from developer

EPUB two column layout only works for text. It can't break an image in a comic book into two columns.

Auto hyphenation not working … (SOLVED!)

… for books in Russian. It looks like your app is the only one that does not support it. (Marvin supports it, i2Reader supports it, Pocketbook supports it, even Apple’s Books supports it.)

P.S. Now it’s working - after the developers’ prompt response!

Awesome app!

Works as promised! Pleasantly surprised!
