What's New in Marcus

1.3.0

August 11, 2026

The Stoics Twelve figures, now in the app: who they were, what they wrote, and which book to start with. Saved lines Every passage in Marcus can now be kept. Tap the heart on a daily reading, on an emotion, on the morning passage or the sealed day, and it joins your collection, where saved lines quietly resurface as you practice. A pool you can trust Every quote has been checked against its source. Passages that were not what they claimed have been removed, including some very famous ones, and 66 now carry their book and chapter. If a line is in Marcus, it is real. The morning asks about other people Marcus Aurelius began his mornings by naming who he would have to meet that day. Now yours does too: who you will find difficult, and what you owe them anyway. The prompt that rehearses adversity has been sharpened to ask what may come at you, rather than what you must do. The weekly review reads your week back What patterns am I noticing is the one question memory cannot answer, because memory is where patterns hide. Your week's entries now sit inside the review itself, day by day, so you answer it from the record. Smaller things Entries now keep the questions they were asked, so your archive stays true even when a prompt is reworded. Buttons grow with your system text size. Meditation downloads are half the size they were. And Day 1 no longer appears before a day has been credited.

User reviews

Awesome

I like the positioning a lot.
Most Stoic apps are just quote-of-the-day machines with a streak counter slapped on. This one is trying to do something closer to what Marcus Aurelius was actually doing — private, structured self-examination so you close the gap between the person you perform and the person you respect when nobody’s watching.
The “Stoic Compass” is the strongest part of what they’re showing. Forcing yourself to answer (and re-answer) why you’re here, what you’re working through, who you’re becoming, and which roles you’re responsible for is more useful than another affirmation. It’s a modern version of the daily orientation the Stoics practiced.
The tone of the copy is also better than most in this space. It’s not selling you calm or productivity. It’s selling the harder, less Instagrammable idea that self-respect is earned through repeated honest practice.
Whether the actual daily practice (morning journal + evening examen + the rest) is good enough to justify the subscription is the real test. A lot of these apps sound excellent on the onboarding screens and then feel thin once you’re inside. But the philosophy they’re aiming at is the right one.
