Not sure if reported bugs will ever get fixed?
5th April.
I hesitated for a long while trying to decide whether to buy this app or not, I took the plunge and bought it, but I never expected to be blown away by all its features and out of this world sounds, even the Darleks would hide if the heard some of these presets. My 13” iPad Air M2 handles it well in terms of CPU usage.
My best purchase ever, can’t go wrong with Moog 👌

An amazing synth
Powerful synth with great sounds!
WOW, BEST SYNTH ON iOS 👌
My best purchase ever, can’t go wrong with Moog 👌
Immense sound with caveats
However, the sound is still awesome even at lower sample rates and blows the iMS-20 away for deep bass which surprised me as that synth is no lightweight. Worth the hassle and probably only an issue on older iPads.
Review after 1 year
- it uses too many resources . Being a 2 layered synth makes it worse cos there doesn’t seem a way to disable the 2nd synth (which I rarely use).
- the modulation options are not so great. There’s no form of audio rate modulation: no FM, no ring mod, no AM, and the LFOs are so slow. A switch to make the LFOs fast would help.
Still 5 stars cos the sound is pure analog pleasure.
Bass and so much more…
It’s difficult to pinpoint why, but Mariana just sounds so good and is so easy to manipulate that it just works in my mixes like few others.
Disappointing noise on my older iPad
Thick, Deep, Powerful Sound
I’ve been surfing the presets and they sound brilliant, can’t wait to get digging into creating my own patches from scratch.

Great synth, missing some key features
The only quarrels I have are with MIDI and sync capabilities pertaining to the iPad version. I was bummed to see Mariana missing Ableton link, as well as the ability to recognize multiple MIDI inputs (like Animoog Z). I realize there is a desktop version and I own it, but I am use the iPad as an instrument feeding directly into my mixer. I found a workaround for using multiple MIDI inputs via MidiFire, but would really appreciate the ability to sync the standalone iOS version of Mariana to an external clock (Ableton, in my case).

Super
Fantastic
Sounds great, maybe cpu/dsp hogging a bit?

BASS!
One quibble: if you want Background Audio on for the standalone version, for some reason the app NEVER saves this setting. Not sure why… it’s really the only setting under Configuration I need to change so I tried changing a few others, closing the app and re-opening to see if it was an issue across all the settings… it’s not! It just won’t save Background Audio as on. Should be fixed.
Another quibble: dang this is a very CPU-hungry synth. I run a 2018 iPad Pro so it’s not exactly the latest tech, but when I add an instance of Mariana in AUM or Loopy Pro, the DSP % goes up by like 30-40%… waaaaay more than any other synth I own (including the other Moogs).
But it sounds so good!
