Difficult to test usefulness

App promises some good features for sailing watches, but has fixed settings (3 x 4hr watches and fixed Time zone offset) which blocks tests to evaluate it's usefulness in different watch configurations. Happy to pay for my maritime apps... but not to test them. Suggest an evaluation period or mode that facilitates testing.

Crashes

Crashes over and over

Ding Ding. Ding Ding.

It’s a fun app to have, has that pleasing nautical sound .

Crap.

You think you are downloading a functional version of the software. However, if you want it to chime correctly, you have to BUY the full version. This version chimes to ship’s time which defaults to 4 hours offset from local time and you can’t change that unless you purchase an upgrade. They don’t mention that in their advertisement.

Continuing to crash

I have purchased and enjoyed the android version of this app. So when I changed to iPhone XR I couldn’t wait to install this version. Unfortunately it seems to be very unstable I turned off notifications except for sound and now I can’t open the app. When I try it just closes. And stops working. Very disappointing

Unusable

One of the most poorly constructed apps I’ve ever come across. First off, no dog watch. Second, a completely dysfunctional tap interface. Third, the app is utterly repulsive to look at in 2018: looks like a tarted-up DOS interface. Pathetic.

No night mode

Works okay but has no night mode where chimes will be silenced. Litters the home screen with unnecessary notifications to say it has chimed. Costs £1.99 to save settings.

Bell not synced

Well at 1030 it rang five bells.....I don't get it. Still could be louder.

Zero stars- waste of time/bandwidth

This app, as free DL, can only run for 12hrs & setting c/n be saved. If you buy the upgrade you still have to open it every 24hrs to keep it running.
Get Weems & Plath's "Ship's Clock", looks good, sounds great, & runs forever in the background.

Response from developer

Every app has it's own special features. Here at MoonC.mobi we prioritise functionality over fancy colour changes or alternative watch backgrounds therefore MarineChimer gives you features that an expensive physical ships clock can't give you, like a flexible watch/shift pattern that can also be adjusted to only chime on your own watch, including a 15 min pre-watch alarm so you can get ready. And few find it a hardship to have to peek at their device within 24 hours.

Nonsense

The writers don't understand watch systems or naming.

The app need purchases to work properly.

Waste of time; get the Weems and Plath app.

Underwhelmed

So I get the app and try setting it up. When I try to save the settings, I get a message that I have to purchase something else. Why not just charge for the app so it will work?

Response from developer

The MarineChimer Ships Bell basic function is the halve hourly chiming and watch/shift functionality which is fully operational in the trial, including all screens, displays and buttons. Upgrading to the ad-free version, to set ships-time and watch length to your specific requirements, is also very reasonable. This way you can try it out before buying. And if you are happy with the pre-settings the trial period can run forever.
