What's New in Mastery

3.0

September 16, 2026

Mastery is the goals-and-steps app it always was — now built around the whole loop: plan a day, work it in focus sprints, work out why something stalls instead of just rewriting it, and review what actually happened. This is the largest update since the app was only goals and steps. • Four ranges, one ladder. Every goal sits in Today, This Week, This Month or This Year, and Roadmap holds all four at once. Nothing expires and nothing turns red — a goal still open just says how long it has waited. • Focus sprints that keep going. Tap any step to start one; the countdown carries on over your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, so you can put the phone face down. • Solve: a place to think, not just a list. When a goal stalls, name the problem, list the causes you suspect, commit to one, turn it into a goal, then come back and record whether it worked. Both answers close the loop — this is the app's actual differentiator, not another to-do list. • Suggestions, written honestly. Write a goal however you think it — "gym 3x a week from Monday" drafts the steps and sets the range from the words you used. Solve suggests what to check when you're stuck on a cause, then what might address the one you commit to. Notes offer the notebook they belong in. Every suggestion is a row you tap to keep, never something filled in for you — and a device without Apple Intelligence gets an honest, editable starter template instead, clearly labelled, that never spends your monthly allowance. • An evening ritual, and a real review. Today asks three short questions each evening, under a minute. Insights turns a week of those nights into what a single day never shows: which days you turn up, whether the plans you set are the plans you keep, and where your rate is heading — sentences, not charts to interpret. • Notes, not an inbox. Dated entries in notebooks you name, searchable across all of them. No unread state, no red badge — a note you never revisit has still done its job. • Routines that repeat honestly. Mark a goal as a routine and it returns each cycle with its steps cleared. A cycle you never opened the app for counts as no record, not a failure. • Reminders, on by default. A morning nudge to plan the day and an evening one to close it — because a reminder you never see is a habit that never forms. Turn either off in Settings any time; nothing else changes if you do. • Private, and syncing properly. Goals, problems, notes, notebooks and reflections all live in your own private iCloud database and sync across your devices. No account, and no server of ours ever sees what you write. • Everything else. Full VoiceOver and Dynamic Type support, quick capture from any tab, backup export and import, and a searchable guide in Settings. Settings › How Mastery works has the full breakdown of every suggestion and where each one is written.
