About
Matrices of the Type Foundry is an archival catalogue and thermal lead-alloy solidification simulator designed for printing historians, typographic preservationists, and hot-metal linecasting machinery collectors.
Built specifically for documenting late 19th-century brass matrices, distributor combination teeth, and font magazine escapements from historical linecasting systems, the application provides an exact structural ledger for cataloguing matrix character profiles and mould disk tolerances without relying on modern digital font metrics.
Build a catalogue of individual matrices and preserve their photographed examples alongside structural data. Search archived entries by codes, glyphs, and shops, classify matrices by series, and organise records across text roman, text italic, display, and other documented matrix groups.
Open an individual matrix record to inspect its character and structural specifications. Records preserve combination tooth patterns, character class, body thickness, escapement measurements, series information, and associated pressroom data together with the photographed matrix.
The Slug Shrinkage model provides a thermal solidification workspace for examining lead-alloy behaviour inside the mould disk. Select a catalogued matrix and adjust antimony and tin percentages while the remaining lead proportion is represented within the alloy composition.
Adjust metal pot temperature and dwell time to model the cooling and solidification conditions associated with the selected matrix. The simulator brings alloy composition, heat, dwell, and shrinkage behaviour together in a single solidification model.
The Magazine Pairing Bench allows two catalogued matrices to be placed side by side for structural comparison. Inspect series, combination teeth, body size, alloy information, and shop provenance while reviewing their magazine compatibility and channel overlap.
The Font Map presents magazine channels as an interactive matrix workspace. Drag matrices between positions, tap them to inspect individual entries, and work with the distributor layout while examining how catalogued matrices relate to magazine channels.
Matrices of the Type Foundry combines archival matrix documentation, thermal lead-alloy modelling, magazine compatibility inspection, and channel mapping in a technical ledger centred on historical hot-metal linecasting systems.
