Outdated
We have used this same companies guide for Kauai and loved it. Got it for Maui and it was worthless. Outdated and just made it more frustrating. We missed things and spent time looking for things that didn't exist.
Must have Maui app
Tried several similar apps for Maui and this was the best. It's the only one that supports background music play, although my iPhone 6 battery only lasted about 3 hours with the app running and music playing.
She's a bit bossy
Used this guide during our last trip to Maui. While driving the road to Hana the guide repeatedly reminded us about our time and which stops were best to make if our goal was to get to Hana and back. Unfortunately for us, we took the south road back, very treacherous. Not recommended by me or the guide.

Noice!
This app is slick. It tells you about your surroundings and where to find attractions. There are also a lot of historic references. No more guess work and wondering what’s about, the app makes exploring very easy and stress free. We’ve been to Maui several times but I think we discovered more on this trip than any previous. Mahalo!

App doesn't work??
I downloaded the app and the in app Hana guided tour in preparation for my trip to Hana but the tour doesn't work; at least for me on my iPhone 6+ Very disappointing😥
Not as good as other app
I bought two similar GPS tour apps about Maui. This one (Maui GPS Tour Guide) is $8.98 including the necessary all-tours Maui in-app add-on. The other one (GyPSy Guide Maui) is $9.99 and does not need any add-ons. The GyPSy Guide is WAY better than this Maui GPS Tour Guide. After using both on Maui for several days, it is obvious that this one (Maui GPS Tou Guide) has much less information, mostly just simple directions or telling you what is near wherever you are driving. And this one has a speaking voice that either is a computer or is an emotionless person. The other one (GyPSy Guide) is MUCH more comprehensive, with many more recorded messages, and much much more background Maui information and history and explanations. And that GyPSy Guide has real human voices with more pleasant sounds and showing expression as they speak.

disappointing
All you get for the purchase is a GPS map of Maui. You can do the same thing with any GPS map ap. You need to purchase additional programs for each area of Maui to actually enjoy any self-guided tours. Little useful info within this map, which seems primarily a sales tool for the other paid aps.
Hardly perfect but worth it
Compared to app store prices it's expensive if you include the needed in-app purchases, but compared to the cost of a trip to Maui it's nothing. We bought only the West Maui tour. The information was surprisingly helpful and informative. Without the add-on you can still get info about beaches, including panoramas. Most missed feature: bookmarking or favorites. Most annoying thing: West Maui & South Maui are separate add-ons when they really should be one. The ability to switch to google maps or another nav app would have helped, also. The GUI design is also weak. It's worth it for the content it provides.

iPad vs iPhone
We used this app as well as the Kauai one on our recent month long Hawaii trip. These apps are must haves. I installed on both my iPhone and iPad (it's free to install 2nd time). If you have an iPad with a GPS and an iPhone I recommend using the iPad version.
First really cool thing, on the iPad it worked perfectly even though I hadn't activated my data plan. I connected to a wifi to get the app's google map to load. After that it remembered the map every time.
The iPads speakers are louder so it's easier to hear. Also, the battery life seems to be better than my iPhone 3G.
We had to place the iPhone on the dashboard to get good gps reception or else it would sometimes miss talking about places. On the iPad the app always reported accuracy at 5 yards and never skipped no matter where we put it in the car.
The app has great beach guides but the photos are iPhone sized, would be nice to see full sized pictures for the iPad.

A must have
This is the first app I have ever reviewed-but it worked so well I wanted others to know about it. I was skeptical at first-paying money for a "glorified map"-but it worked flawlessly. Even when we didn't have service it kept on going. It is a wonderful app that is a must have if you are touring Maui!

Nice Little App
We were a bit worried about the price tag and some of the negative reviews on this one but all-in-all we were quite happy with it. We bought all of the tours, plugged the iPhone into the aux jack of the rental car's stereo and let the app do its thing as we drove around the island for 4 days. We learned a lot more and discovered some places that we would have not known about if not for the app. i would recomend it to anyone going to Maui.

Waste of money
This is a terrible app. I bought all the in-app tours which did not work for me. I read the instructions pretty carefully. It says you do not need cell phone signals for it to work but that is not the case. Well it didnt worked for me even when i had signal. I emailed the app people for a help or refund but never received any reply.

Paid for the Main app and was told I wouldn't pay for any of the subsequent tour apps if I ordered within 3 days of purchasing the main app. Well I did and it debited my account anyway. Hope this thing works?
This is what makes the iPhone great
Just returned from a week cruise of Hawaii. This app allowed us to rent a car and drive the island at our own pace, stopping when and if we wanted. We had a great trip with this apps help. I would suggest you take a car charger since the iPhone battery will wear down before you get across the island and back.

Incredibly Disappointing
There isn't a lot of content available in the app at purchase unless you purchase additional "tours". We bought the Hana highway add-on, which was worthless. It provided very little feedback on sights and when it did, the instructions were usually along the lines of "We can't recommend spending time here." Between the initial $3 price and the $6 add-on, this was the most expensive app store waste I've bought. Very sad I was duped into this.

Best app ever
I've been to Maui before, but really wanted to explore this time. I found this application and downloaded it, including all the guided tours. As stated all over the app itself is you must pay above he price of the application for the actual tours. I have to say this is the best $15 I've spent in a long time!! I loved the person doing the tour too! I was able to leave the application on as I drove and it chimed in whenever there was something of interest about to come up. It always gave enough time if we needed to pull over and park to see the attraction too. Even if you are a seasoned Maui traveler this is really worth every penny. And you don't have to buy all the tours either. If you are only going to be in one section of the island you can download only that area. Pretty amazing. It worked even when I didn't have a signal on my iPhone.

A must have if heading to Maui
We are just ending our 1 week stay today on Maui. My family really enjoyed this app all week especially on the road to Hana. Information was accurate and informative. We almost paid a guide for a private tour of east Maui. This app allowed for us to do what we wanted without having to flip through maps or books. Just plugged my iPhone into aux jack of rental and off we went. This app is highly recommended. Only complaint. I wish you could flag areas as visited so info didn't repeat if you wanted to leave your phone plugged in all the time when traveling back and forth. Awesome app. Buy all of the guides!!

It's a gimmick!

Don't leave home without it!
We took a 1 wk cruise thru the Hawaiian Islands and only had 2 days on Maui. This app was fabulous! My husband really loved the GPS feature (it knew where we were) and provided great information as we drove around Maui. This app allowed us to maximize our time there; just wished we'd had this on the other islands.

Useful
We used this app on our 3rd trip to Maui. I downloaded it more out of curiosity than an expectation of learning anything new. Well, I was very pleasantly surprised. The app is sort of like a talking guide book and it does a marvelous job of pointing out various attractions. The historical references are interesting although a different voice actor would have been a nice touch.
