About
Mavuno is the social network for African Australians. If your family's story runs through Harare, Juba, Lagos, Addis Ababa, Nairobi or Accra and your life is here, it was made for you, whether you landed last month or were born in Toowoomba.
Jobs, events and recommendations from people in your city, with a name behind every post. No ads. No tracking.
YOUR CITY
• Every city has a space: Brisbane, Western Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and more. Ask for a mechanic, a room, a church or a Saturday game, and hear from people who live there.
• Nearby goes by the city you choose, never your phone's location.
EVENTS
• Dinner dances, independence days, tournaments, church and mosque events, graduations.
• Say you're going, see who else is, and add it to your calendar.
• Host your own and share it with your city's space.
JOBS, SCHOLARSHIPS AND MENTORING
• Every listing is posted by a named person or organisation you can message before you apply.
• Jobs must pay at least the legal minimum, and nobody may ask you for money to apply.
POSTS AND MESSAGES
• Post news, questions, photos and polls. Reply, quote and save.
• Put your heritage on your profile in your own words.
• Message one person or a group. People you don't follow wait in Requests until you say yes.
• Invite friends with your own link, and you'll follow each other from their first day.
SAFETY
• Every report goes to a person on our team.
• Mute or block anyone, everywhere at once.
• Everyone agrees to the community rules before their first post. Links that point somewhere other than they say show a warning.
• Until a new member has a track record, an automatic check looks at what they publish. Private messages are never checked.
PRIVACY
• No ads, no tracking, and we never sell your information.
• Photos lose their location before they're stored.
• Download your data or delete your account from the app whenever you like.
Mavuno is run by Mentors Outreach in Queensland. It's free, and you need to be 16 or older. Mavuno is Swahili for harvest.
