Track as-needed done right

All medicine tracking apps tell you when to take scheduled medicines. They may track supply and alert when you are running low.

In my quest I’ve only found a now-unavailable app and Cadence that tracks as-needed medicines. By this I mean Cadence can advise and control the number of doses permitted in 24 hours, and also the minimum time between doses. This is an important control for many painkillers which you only take when you need them, but there is a limit to how many and how often.

I’ve switched to Cadence from that unavailable app now for four weeks. Where I’ve found quirks and have suggestions the developer has been quick to respond. More importantly updates have been released frequently, addressing bugs and features.

While the main features are all free, something not all apps do, I purchased the on-time upgrade to have the pro reporting features. To me the app worth more than the price of this upgrade and I wanted to recognises the developer.

This app needs to be promoted so more regular medicine users can safely take their meds.

Great tracking tool

Lots of useful features, developer(s) are responsive to enhancements. Makes tracking medication usage, symptoms and even general moods during the day make this a all-in-one place to track everything.

Then packaging this into a nice simple text file that can be shared with a provider is very useful.

NOAH’S ARK!

It appears that the well-being of our society is encountering some challenges. Suddenly, the App Store is teeming with Medication Tracker apps, emerging more rapidly than one could say "flood"!

The vast majority of these applications fall short, with 95% not even offering a version suitable for your Watch. However, through some trials and lessons learned, I've discovered a true treasure, thoughtfully designed by a visionary!

This app's user interface is polished so brilliantly, it's almost like navigating it with sunglasses is needed. Adding new medications or updating existing ones? It's incredibly straightforward! Notifications are as dependable as the guards at Buckingham Palace, ensuring your routine remains uninterrupted. The lock-screen widgets function seamlessly, too!

The highlight is the Watch component! An embodiment of simplicity, this masterpiece comes with a complication and three wonderful options to choose from!

The Free version is genuinely impressive, yet if you're seeking comprehensive control over your health journey, along with detailed patterns and extensive health data alongside your medications, the Pro version is your key to success. The small cost is a worthwhile investment.

The developer's communication is exemplary, with responses typically arriving within minutes!

I've likened this app to Noah’s Ark! Its stability and reliability provide the steadfast support we require in navigating life's challenges, guiding us towards a healthier and happier future!

To the Developer:

Thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a review :)

only medicine app I have really loved and the dev is devoted!

dev listened to feature requests I did in the past, and the updates keep coming. this has been the best medicine app I have used, and I have gone through so many. this is what I use now for all my medicines besides CVS.

hoping this helps with visibility as App Store is notorious for not spotlighting hidden gems.

thanks for continuing the good work! it is appreciated immensely from a disabled user who has struggled for years with medicine. It makes a difference in my life.

Sorry to read you were not happy with this free app. It would be really helpful if you had provided more information in your review, specficially about what features you would like to have in Cadence. Otherwise a 1 star review does feel a little harsh. All the best.

Properly tracks as-needed meds

Cadence has lots of features which I’m still trying: day four since finding Cadence. While I’m not sure I need the paid features I have nevertheless bought it in order to support this app.

The normal scheduled taking of meds is here. But where it stands out is the tracking of as-needed/on-demand/unscheduled meds. You can set to limit to N doses in 24 hours, and also a minimum of T hours between each dose. This is omitted by most apps, I only found one which I have used for over 15 years until it’s just disappeared from the App Store. Any painkiller, be it over the counter or prescribed, is started when you need it but you have to track when the next dose can be safely taken and how many you’ve had. Cadence does this!

Also supply tracking is nicely done. It’s visible directly in the medicines list and reports.

It’s not fully polished, with 16 medicines to setup I found a bit too much tapping and swiping through screens. Now setup how I like this won’t be an issue when adding any new item. I like that each medicine can have a background colour assigned: I use the same colour to group meds for my conditions.

I think Cadence will become my new medication tracking app

Great pill tracker 💊

Great app. Wish it could read/write the medications I take in Apple Health. It would make it easier for my health care providers access it too.

Response from developer

Thanks so much for the review! Glad to hear you are finding the app useful. Cadence can already import your medications from Health on iOS 26 and later: tap + on the Medications screen and choose "Import from Apple Health". However, writing back into Health isn't possible yet. Apple's medications API is read only for other apps. If that changes, we'll add it for sure :)

Truly a great app!

Keep track and reminder of your medications in a professional and reliable way. Very recommended!

Nice app

I’ve been using it for about a month now and the only thing that I would change is the screen that opens up as you start the app, simply because I don’t know what that number on that screen represents.
I used to use a different app for my medication but this one is so much easier to use, plus you can let the app know how you’re feeling on that particular morning/night.

The Best Medication Tracker I’ve Ever Used

Cadence is, hands down, the best medication tracker I’ve found. It’s thoughtfully designed, incredibly easy to use, and has become part of my daily routine without ever feeling like another chore.

I love that I can track both my scheduled medications and my as-needed medications with just a tap. It also keeps track of individual dosages and shows me exactly when I last took each medication, which has been incredibly helpful.

One of my favorite features is the daily reflections. They can be as simple as logging your mood and energy level, or you can spend another few seconds adding one good thing, one challenge, and what shaped your day. It takes less than 20 seconds, but over time it creates a much more complete picture alongside your medication history. The calendar view also makes it easy to see at a glance whether you’ve taken your medications, logged symptoms, or completed your reflections.

As someone with AuDHD, my favorite thing is that I was able to set everything up once and then just let the app do its job. It works quietly in the background, and I don’t have to constantly think about managing it.

I also really appreciate that Cadence is a one-time purchase instead of another subscription. For $9.99, you own it for life. Your data stays on your device, and the app doesn’t collect your personal information. Even better, there’s a free trial so you can experience all of the features before deciding whether to buy.

My only suggestion would be a few more widget options. The current widgets work well, but I’d love to see more customization in the future. That said, it’s a very small wish for an app that absolutely earns five stars.

If you’re looking for a medication tracker that’s private, thoughtfully designed, and genuinely helpful, I can’t recommend Cadence enough.

UI Scale Issue

It’s not suitable with iPhone with 4.7 size like iPhone SE 2022. Some texts like in premium unlock page are cropped below.
Review2: It’s scaling is fine now, thanks to you. But in the meantime, I lost the chance to redeem the lifetime premium code. Could you please send me one? Many thanks.

Response from developer

Bug reports are best submitted via the in app submission form rather than the review link. That said, I have resolved the issue you mention in the latest version (available now) and that should be working for you now. Please check it out and consider updating your review. Thank you.

Don’t waste your money

Every time I try to scan a label it just sits there like a three year old waiting for you to give it food. When you finally put a new bottle on n front of it, magically it decides to recognize it as the bottle you had been waiting for previously. However, you can’t be certain if it’s going to import all the correct dosage information for the container you just had. The trick here is scanning bottles so you don’t have to enter information manually, otherwise it’s no different than any other app in the field, and at the moment, it’s not better than any of them. If I could get a refund I would.

Response from developer

Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. Improving the scanning feature is something I’m actively working on, and notes like yours help. If you have specific suggestions, the in-app feature request form is the best way to get them to me directly. For what it’s worth the core app stays free for life, including all logging and tracking, and the Pro trial (7days) is built in so the insights features can be tested before paying. If the app is not the right fit for you despite testing it and then purchasing Pro, Apple can process a refund directly. All the best.

The Cadence App Creates a Healthy Daily Rhythm

Cadence is easily one of the best-designed medication reminder apps I’ve ever used. The interface is clean, modern, intuitive, and genuinely enjoyable to interact with. You can tell a huge amount of thought and care went into both the UI and the overall user experience.

What really impressed me is how feature-rich the app is without ever feeling cluttered or overwhelming. Medication scheduling is flexible, reminders are reliable, and the Apple Health integration is fantastic. I also love the privacy-first approach with no unnecessary accounts or subscriptions pushed on you.

The prescription label scanning, lock screen actions, Apple Watch support, and insightful health tracking make this app feel incredibly polished and premium. It solves a real problem in a smart and elegant way.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants a medication reminder app that is both powerful and beautifully designed. Absolutely deserving of five stars!

I just bought an Apple Watch 10. I can't wait to integrate this fantastic app Cadence with my new (first one) Apple Watch.

Fantastic developer support, now an absolute 5-star app!

I originally left a critical review because of several issues, but I’m honestly impressed by how quickly everything was fixed. The developer responded incredibly fast and resolved all the problems I mentioned.

The app is now much cleaner, more organized, and far easier to navigate. The widgets work perfectly now on both the home screen and lock screen, which makes a huge difference in daily use. I also absolutely love the “arriving home” reminder feature.

One small feature request I’d still love to see: in the calendar view, it would be great to have a small red dot or marker on days where I logged medications taken as needed, like Aspirin. That way you could quickly see how often you took certain medications during the month.

Overall though, this app has become an absolute recommendation from me. Great app, fantastic support, and a developer who truly listens to feedback.
