Where has this app been all my life?!

Before this app, I spent many years without a social life as all the Christians I met just wanted to do Bible studies and worship nights. While I love both, I never had anyone to go to baseball, concerts, dinner, movies, kayaking, karoake, or dancing with unless I was on the dating apps & I got tired of those…thanks to Meet at the Mirror, my social calendar is now full!

If you’re legalistic this crowd won’t be your vibe, but if you believe you can be in the world and not of it & have fun in moderation, you’ll love it. Some people drink, some don’t. Overall though, the community feels safe as hookup culture is unwelcome.

Speaking of safe, one thing I really appreciate is how seriously the admins take safety. At a recent event, one member openly shared his derogatory, sexually & physically violent thoughts about women that led many to believe that he’s an unsafe individual. Countless folks including other males reported him to the app owners and he was quickly removed. He’s apparently very good at using ChatGPT to write things that make it sound like he’s the victim, but here’s the truth.

Only con: The app itself is glitchy. I’ve had to reinstall it several times in order to see new messages. But honestly? I’m just grateful this community exists at all. Thank you for creating a much needed space for Christians to do life with in Austin! :)

A Much-Needed App!

I love this app! It’s so nice to have the opportunity to come together in real life to build connections and relationships with other intentional Christians!

Disappointing leadership and one-sided moderation

I had high hopes for Meet At The Mirror because Austin genuinely needs stronger Christian community spaces for singles. Unfortunately, my experience revealed what I believe are serious leadership and moderation issues within the community.

The environment often feels emotionally reactive rather than balanced, mature, or grounded in healthy dialogue. In one discussion, men were broadly characterized as “creepy” or borderline predatory simply for being open to dating women several years younger than them — something that is fairly common among Christians who desire marriage and family. When I respectfully pushed back and encouraged a more charitable discussion, I was reprimanded instead of the inflammatory comments being addressed.

My second negative experience happened during a group event where participants were openly discussing dating red flags. I shared personal preferences and compatibility concerns that many people commonly discuss while dating:

* differences in values and presentation,
* unresolved family trauma,
* and attention-seeking social media behavior.

Apparently this offended someone present, who later posted an emotional public rant to a massive group accusing Christian men of being judgmental and “unsafe.” Leadership did conduct an investigation afterward, but from my perspective it was not balanced or fair. The conversations appeared to primarily involve the offended party and her close female friends, while several men and other attendees who were present were never consulted. The accused also never really had a meaningful opportunity to explain context or provide their perspective before disciplinary action was taken.

Rather than pursuing a balanced understanding of the situation, the process felt heavily driven by emotional reactions and assumptions. I was ultimately removed from the community despite there being no threats, harassment, or personal attacks involved.

That was the moment I realized this may not be a healthy environment for genuine Christian singles seeking mature relationships and open discussion. It appears criticism flows only one direction, and the strongest emotional response often carries the most weight.

My concern is less about one disagreement and more about the broader culture being cultivated:

* men being shamed for standards or preferences,
* disagreement being treated as harm,
* and moderation decisions being made without balanced representation or due process.

Christian community requires discernment, wisdom, accountability, and the ability to handle uncomfortable conversations without immediately demonizing people with differing viewpoints. I did not experience that here.

I cannot recommend this community to Christian men looking for a balanced, respectful, or intellectually honest dating environment.

Worldly

I downloaded this app because it was listed as an app for believers. In my mind that means people that don’t drink or club . There are plenty of groups I could find where people do that. If you are serious about your walk and don’t indulge in drinking and meet ups at bars do not recommend downloading this app. I could see how people new to the faith would download it.

Great idea, but super glitchy.

App desperately needs improvement. In the group chats, the screen automatically scrolling from the first to the last text again and again and again. I can’t even read what people are saying because the screen never stops refreshing and scrolling.
