About

Tekton is the Greek word for a builder, a carpenter. It is what his own town called Jesus: is not this the carpenter? Forty days for a man who wants to be nearer to God, to himself, to his people and to his work, ten days for each. Every day opens on one passage of the King James Bible and three movements. Pray the Word. Read the passage once, out loud if you can. Then talk to God in your own words, and be still for one minute. There are no written prayers, and there never will be. On a day with no words, borrow his: a Psalm, the Lord's Prayer, the passage itself, or silence. The practice. One thing for the body each day, and nine you can come back to, older than the phone they run on: breath, silence, walking prayer, the examen, slow reading, the morning watch, the closet, the table, the blessing. The screen goes dark and stays awake, with a soft chant, a distant forest or a gentle rain under it if you want one. Lay it down. Two lines at night, in your own words, and the day is set down. The sun comes up over the forty whether you are watching or not. Each day you pray leaves a ray, and a night laid down lengthens it. A missed day leaves nothing and says nothing. A beam is carried by two. Name a brother and send him Tekton in a text from your own phone. He begins his own forty; each man's walk is his own. Every seventh day of yours you are given one question to ask him, by call or across a table, never in the app. There is no feed and no chat. Kept holds the passages you keep and the lines you lay down. After the tenth night the look back opens: your own words in order, and three questions asked on five nights, read across, so you can see what has changed and what has not yet. Open the Book gives you one more passage a day to carry, a word to chew on, not an answer. After the forty, the Word keeps coming. A widget sets the day's passage on your Home Screen or Lock Screen. Nothing comes to us. No account, no server, no analytics, no streak, no score. What you write stays on your phone, with a copy in your own iCloud and nowhere else; you can turn the copy off. A morning bell rings only if you set one. Tekton is not a church, not a counselor, and not a substitute for a real brother in a real room.
