About
Study for the Japanese driving licence written test without losing the Japanese.
Most apps for foreign residents translate the question into your language and stop there. You practise in English or Vietnamese for three weeks, walk into the test centre, and the paper is in Japanese.
So this one keeps the Japanese sentence on screen the whole time. Furigana sits over the kanji, terms are tappable, and your language runs underneath rather than instead.
THREE EXAMS, KEPT APART
Provisional (karimen), full (honmen), and the foreign licence conversion test (gaimen kirikae). Different pass marks, different time limits, different lengths. The app treats them as three exams rather than one pile of questions with a dropdown on top, because that is what they are.
WHAT IS IN IT
1000 practice questions, written from published sources.
Explanations in 12 languages, interface in 35.
244 road signs, drawn for this app and checked one by one against the official charts.
67 illustrated scenes for the questions that need a picture rather than a paragraph.
Mock exams that follow the real pass mark and the real clock.
A review queue that brings a question back the day you are about to forget it, not the day after.
OFFLINE
Questions, signs and illustrations all ship inside the app. Nothing loads while you study. Trains go underground and driving centres have terrible reception.
WHERE THE QUESTIONS COME FROM
Every question records the document it was written from: the National Police Agency traffic rules manual, prefectural police exam pages, the road sign order on e-Gov. The full list is public at menkyopass.wuyuxai.com/sources, with the date each document was last checked.
This matters more than it sounds. Traffic law gets revised, and a revision quietly turns a correct answer into a wrong one. An app that cannot tell you which questions a change touched will keep teaching the old rule with total confidence.
HONEST ABOUT THE TRANSLATIONS
The Japanese is the source text. The other eleven explanation languages started as machine drafts, and not all of them have been read by a native speaker yet. If a sentence in your language reads badly, trust the Japanese above it, and please write to me. That is the part I cannot check alone.
WHAT IT IS NOT
MenkyoPass is an independent study app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the National Police Agency, any prefectural police force, any driving school, or any government body. It does not issue, check, or administer anything.
It also does not predict the exam. Nobody has the real paper, whatever an app tells you. These are practice questions written from the published rules.
