About

Mercury Barometer is an offline weather forecasting simulation built with SpriteKit. You play as a village weather observer stationed at historic observation posts across the world, reading classical mercury instruments to predict the next day's weather and keep your village safe from storms. HOW TO PLAY - Each day the three instruments (barometer, thermometer, hygrometer) animate to new readings. Watch the needles settle. - Read the on-screen hint text and combine it with the three readings. - Tap one of the five weather prediction buttons: Sunny, Cloudy, Rainy, Storm, or Snowy. - Correct prediction: village safety unchanged. Wrong prediction: village safety drops by 20%. - Multi-day contracts (Levels 9, 20, 35, 50) require 3 or 5 consecutive daily predictions for a combined score. 50 CONTRACTS Journey across five atmospheric observation stations, each hiding more instruments and offering more weather choices: - Royal Society London (Levels 1-10): All three instruments visible. Learn the basics. - Alpine Monastery (Levels 11-20): One instrument hidden. Mountain weather patterns. - North American Plains (Levels 21-30): One instrument hidden. Severe storms and tornado risk. - Yangtze Observatory (Levels 31-40): Two instruments hidden. Monsoon and humid conditions. - Arctic Field Station (Levels 41-50): Two instruments hidden. Blizzard and extreme cold. INSTRUMENT SYSTEM - Barometer: mercury column in hPa, range 940 to 1060, silver tone. - Thermometer: mercury column in degrees Celsius, range -25 to 48, red tone. - Hygrometer: dial in percent relative humidity, range 0 to 100, blue tone. - Each instrument fills with a smoothstep animation over 0.8 seconds. WEATHER TYPES AND DIFFICULTY - Five weather types: Sunny, Cloudy, Rainy, Storm, Snowy. - Difficulty progression by available choices: - Levels 1-5: 2 weather choices. - Levels 6-15: 3 choices. - Levels 16-30: 4 choices. - Levels 31+: 5 choices. Mercury Barometer is a calm, atmospheric observation puzzle about reading the instruments and whispering the pressure before the storm arrives.
