Meridian is a single, beautiful screen that shows you exactly where the Sun is right now — and tells you the story of how your daylight is changing through the year. Two facts, fused into one calm, glanceable experience: • Where the Sun is — its height and direction in your sky, right now, from your real location. • How your daylight is trending — the smooth wave of daylight hours across the year, and how fast it's changing today. WHAT'S INSIDE Right Now A living arc of the Sun's path, with the marker exactly where the Sun is at this moment — tall in summer, shallow in winter, dipping below the horizon at night. Today's daylight length, the change versus yesterday, and a countdown to the next sunrise or sunset. Tap for height, direction, solar noon, and golden hour. This Year The annual daylight curve, drawn so the steepness itself is visible — the line swells warm and gold where daylight is changing fast near the equinoxes, and thins to a cool quiet line near the solstices. A plain-English read on today's pace, and a countdown to the next solstice or equinox. Golden hour & twilight The warm golden hour and deep blue hour, plus civil, nautical and astronomical twilight — first light to last light, computed for wherever you are, and named on the main screen the moment you're in one. The Moon turns up It had been up there the whole time, frankly, and we finally got round to drawing it. After dark the Moon now rides the night sky above the Sun's trough — the real lunar face, seas and craters, lit to tonight's true phase. Beneath it: which phase, how much is lit, and when it rises and sets. South of the equator it arrives the right way up. Then there's the moment itself. When the Sun reaches the horizon the light blooms out from it — a warm swell, a soft ring, a few embers lifting — and you feel a gentle tap. It's easy to miss, so the arc now holds still for a couple of minutes afterwards instead of briskly getting on with the night. If you'd like to know when you're not watching, there's a new sunrise and sunset alert in the info sheet. Off until you say otherwise. Under the daylight total, one quiet fact now turns over as you watch: how much daylight you've banked since midwinter, the date on the far side of the solstice with exactly the same daylight as today, how long twilight lingers tonight. Tap it if you're impatient. First light and last light have moved onto the arc, under sunrise and sunset, where they always belonged. None of it needs the internet. The Sun, the Moon and every time on the screen are worked out on your phone, offline — the only thing that ever leaves it is a coordinate, handed to Apple Maps when you ask what a place is called. Also fixed: our Sun was an optimist. It appeared to clear the horizon up to a quarter of an hour before it actually managed it — worst near the equator. It now waits its turn. The daylight arc sits centred on solar noon rather than drifting off to one side, and "astronomical twilight" is no longer cut short, which was a poor look for a word of that length.
