About
MetalHunt scans a whole wall, not one spot. It maps the studs, works out the spacing and marks the safe gaps between them before you drill.
Calibrate first. Swing the phone in a figure eight until the app confirms it — until then a reading can show a find on an empty table.
NEW IN 2.0
- Wall Map. Scan a wall in a grid and get a heat map of the whole surface instead of one live number. Save a map for every wall and export it as an image. Wall Map is in beta: rows are divided by time rather than distance, so the map is faithful only if you sweep at an even pace.
- PDF report. Turn any scan into a document you can hand to a client or keep with your renovation notes.
- EMF Inspector. Measure the field around a microwave, router, fridge or bed, and read each result next to the typical published range for that appliance.
- Lab Mode. Five guided experiments with the raw magnetometer signal.
- Stud Assist. Classifies the shape of a signal so you can tell a stud edge from a pipe.
- Sonar audio feedback, peak hold, a home screen widget, Shortcuts and quick actions.
WHAT IT FINDS
- Iron studs and steel framing before drilling
- Steel pipes and rebar in walls, floors and concrete
- Nails, screws, bolts and hidden hardware
- Magnets and steel tools
- Magnetic fields from motors, microwaves and transformers
WHAT IT CANNOT FIND
The iPhone magnetometer reacts to ferromagnetic materials only: iron, steel and nickel. It cannot find gold, silver, copper, aluminium or brass, and no app on any phone can. It measures magnetic field strength, not depth, and it is not a medical or safety device. Always confirm with a proper stud finder before you drill.
