Useless if you have to transfer

If your commute involves a transfer to a different line you have to create a “trip” for each segment. Those two trips do not coordinate, so you have no way of knowing what time you will arrive at your destination. It’s great if your trip is all one one line.

!!Same data issues as Transit!!

Just waited more than ten minutes for the next train because this isn’t accurately showing WMATA’s etas. So I took a leisurely ride down the escalators for a train that it said was 4 minutes away and was actually arriving—meaning that I got to the platform at the exact right time to watch it pull away.

There’s nowhere in the app to report bugs or ask about fixes either, which is a bummer. This could be a really useful app but I don’t understand why these apps aren’t showing the times that WMATA (and Google Maps and Citymapper, etc) is tracking for its trains.

Great data and user interface

A much better data source for metro rail ETA than WMATA’s own with awesome UI

MetroHero

This is the best app of the three that I have. What I think is good about it is that it shows you where and what the DC Metro is doing.

Truly perfect

I’ve tried several Metro-related apps. This is the first one I’ve been truly happy with. It’s perfect for what I need and has given me a heads up on multiple occasions regarding service issues so I could adjust my commute accordingly. Thanks so much for the app!

True hero

Use this app multiple times every day—it lets me gauge whether I need to sprint when I change trains, whether I have enough time to grab a coffee while waiting for the bus, and why my commute is screwed up. True to it’s name—it’s dc’s metro hero.

Keep it up!

It’s so sad this is the best app for The DC Metro and yet it isn’t even close to the top 10 on the App Store if you search “Metro” I hope more people learn about this and use it!

If your looking for a Metro app this is a killer app! Look. No further!

Was on the metro and saw a Metro employee using it. As an everyday user of the metro I think this is awesome! I’ll be telling everyone I know about to especially people visiting.

Best WMATA app!

I’ve been using this app for a few years and it only gets better. I love having the ability to see if the train approaching. This is especially helpful because of how time is reported by WMATA. When is the Apple Watch app coming out?!!!!! Please tell us it’s coming.

Incredible app

Thank you James and Jen for your incredible app!!!! I am going to spread of the words and tell more friends to use this app! It is so user friendly and smooth to use. You should expand to all other cities and countries! They all need you!

Best regards!

Brilliant.

Seriously. So helpful! Thank you!

Excellent user friendly metro app

This app is excellent for checking the metro flow and average wait times.

Metro bus functionality marginalized for too long

I am admittedly reviewing a beta/preview on an app that has had a tremendous amount of work out into it without charge (I have donated in past). But it’s a real tease to be able to get bus info and give some sort of feedback on buses - but not be able set and save bus routes and have them up front for continued use. The marginalized nature of the bus route functionality undercuts its even provisional utility.

Essential App for Every Washingtonian

This is easily the best app ever produced for the DC Metro. It gives a lot of insight into WHY the train is late and helps you decide whether it’s worth waiting or taking another form of transport.

The only thing it’s missing is integration with the @MetroHotCars Twitter account.

THE DC Metro App

I’ve used CityMapper, Transit, Moovit, the official DC metro app, etc etc I’ve tried them all. This is by far and away the best app for the DC Metro.

Yes, this sounds like a review by someone who was paid.
No, I wasn’t.
This app has legitimately been a godsend many times and that’s why I’m so enthusiastic about it.

It’s accurate, reliable, and in the rare instance that there’s a bug the developers have been quick to make fixes.
The ability to quickly see what’s being tweeted about the metro and where is awesome, as are the live maps.

The Best

This is probably the best transit app not just for the DC area but period. Know the exact location of trains and buses in seconds, set up saved trips to know exactly how close trains are and how long trips are taking.

Have been waiting for the app for a while! Best Metro App

I have been using the mobile site for a while waiting this app to release!! And finally the day has come! Fantastic app that models the website well! Must download if living in the Northern Virginia, DC, MD areas and have any plans of riding the trains! Love the maps that shows the up to minute trains that move on the map!

A lifesaver!

This app is genuinely a lifesaver, and on the rare occasion I haven’t had access to it but have been on Metro, I’ve missed it a lot. I deal with a lot of anxiety about public transportation, and WMATA (with is malfunctioning trains, arcing insulators, track fires, single tracking, and random speed limitations) seems to aim to validate my anxiety as much as possible. MetroHero honestly brings me so much relief—even when I can’t control the other factors, at least I know that the next train is headed to my destination, has 8 cars, and is 1 minute away but moving slowly! It allows the illusion of control and certainty while dealing with a terribly inconsistent and uncontrollable system. I also love that you can report on the conditions of the cars/stations—believe me, when it’s 90 degrees and 70% humidity out, it’s good to have a heads-up that that train has malfunctioning AC!

So glad you guys are finally on the App Store!
