About
Metronodes turns counting into a machine you can build.
Drop a counter on the canvas. Give it a range, a step, and a tick. Then draw a line from one counter to another and write the rule that joins them — "when this loops, add one to that", "when this goes past 5, reset that". Press Run and the whole thing comes alive.
That's the entire idea. Counters are the nodes, rules are the wires, and everything you build is made from those two pieces.
WHAT YOU CAN BUILD
• A working clock — seconds rolling into minutes, minutes into hours
• Polyrhythms and drum patterns that drift in and out of phase
• A binary ripple counter, one bit per counter
• Generative music, where counter values become notes and a patch plays itself
• A dot-matrix sign spelling whatever you like, one counter per pixel
MADE FOR TINKERING
• Edit mode for wiring things up, Play mode for a clean view of the machine running
• Rules fire on transitions — a crossing, a loop, a limit reached — not on every tick, so signals stay musical instead of storming
• Colour pulses, background flashes and notes you can attach to any counter or rule
• Decimal, binary, octal and hexadecimal counters
• Snapshots to freeze a state and come back to it later
• Ten worked examples to pull apart and rebuild
