About

This app introduces randomness to MIDI note streams, selectively muting notes to create sparser, more dynamic musical patterns. It offers multiple modes for controlling muting probability based on note, scale, or sequence position.

Random MIDI note muting
Four distinct muting modes
Gate On/Off Repeats for dynamic control
Note-specific muting percentages
Sequencer-based muting patterns
CoreMIDI and AUv3 support

What's New in midiGATEs

2.1.0

March 16, 2020

Changed app name to "midiGATEs probability" to distinguish from my midiFILTr volca apps Added a time sync option to the sequencer gate, so it can work based on time step (all notes treated the same during that particular 1/8 note step in time) rather than note step (each note treated separately) Added an animation to show the current active step in sequencer mode Added a color animation to the current gate type button to show when a note is passed through (white) or muted (black) Added AU user shared presets Fixed weird font change Misc other fixes and improvements

Great utility

I am having trouble running more then one instance of this in AUM
I am trying to connect a midiLFO to control each instance and it only uses the same LFO for both
I am very thankful for this useful auv3…. Now I wish it could also randomize the velocity of incoming MIDI … I wish it could handle a matrix of 16 MIDI channels separately
So you would only need one instance of this running in AUM but drive multiple different instruments on sepychannels

I hope the creator will add a velocity randomizer to this or create an auv3 that does… thank you

Great tool for midi sequencing

This app really makes compositions better when used with midi sequencers. It helps make things more interesting because less notes is usually better. -Please continue to support Midigates.

Awesome if you know how

Awesome if you know how to use it. Adds a great deal of humanization to self-generative MIDI.

Please update this app to 16 to 32 gates

I love this app. It is an essential part of my compositional process but 8 gates are not enough. If this app can be updated to 16 or 32 gates and have CC control on the parameters it would be PERFECT!!!

FAQ

What is midiGATEs?

midiGATEs is a CoreMIDI and Audio Unit v3 MIDI Effect application designed to introduce random muting to incoming MIDI notes. It helps make repetitive note streams more interesting and sparser by selectively silencing notes based on various probability settings.

How does midiGATEs work?

midiGATEs listens to MIDI input and applies a set of rules to randomly mute some of the incoming notes. It offers different modes like Gate Mode, Note Mode, and Sequencer Mode, each with unique ways to control the probability of muting.

What are the different modes in midiGATEs?

midiGATEs features Gate Mode (a single mute percentage for all notes), Note Mode (individual percentages per note in a scale), Sequencer Mode (different percentages for every eight notes), and Thru Mode (no muting).

Can midiGATEs be used with other music apps?

Yes, midiGATEs is designed to work as an AUv3 MIDI effect within supported hosts like Audiobus and AUM. It can also be used independently by toggling its CoreMIDI input and output.

What devices does midiGATEs support?

midiGATEs is supported on iPhone, iPad, and iPod. It is rated for ages 4 and up.
