About
Living abroad, the hard part usually isn't cooking. It's standing in the grocery store at 6 pm with no idea what to make tonight or how much to buy. CookMate plans three days of Chinese dinners, then turns everything you need into one shopping list.
THREE DINNERS, PLANNED AROUND YOUR TASTES
The first time you open the app, it asks a few questions: how many are eating (1 or 2), what you don't eat (pork, beef and lamb, fish and seafood, spicy food, cilantro), whether you want quick dishes, and which courses you want each night (meat, veggie, soup, staple). Then it lays out dinner for today, tomorrow, and the day after.
Don't like a dish? Tap "Swap" to see the other dishes of the same kind, each with a photo, and tap "Swap in" on the one you want. Only want to make two of them? Tap "Remove". Removed dishes stay at the bottom of that day's page, so you can restore them any time. Not happy with the whole plan? Tap "Replan 3 Days".
When you choose 1 person, ingredient amounts are scaled down to one serving, rounded toward less.
ONE SHOPPING LIST, MERGED FOR YOU
Everything the three dinners need goes on one list, with matching ingredients added together. If two dishes use eggs, eggs show up once. Check items off as you shop. Swap or remove a dish and the list updates right away; anything you already checked stays checked.
QUICK MEALS FOR ONE
Cooking for one? In "Tastes," choose 1 person and turn on "Quick meals for one." Each day you get one meat-and-veggie dish plus a staple. The app interleaves the prep, stir-frying, and rice across two burners and a rice cooker. Every meal shows about how many minutes it will take.
Tap "Cook it all together" and the app walks you through it step by step. It reminds you when it's time to stir or turn off the heat, and for meat and eggs it asks you to confirm they're cooked through before moving on.
Times are estimated for an ordinary home kitchen at a normal pace, from ingredients on the counter to the last dish plated. Extra time to cook something through isn't included.
COOKING MODE
Every dish has a photo and step-by-step instructions. The screen stays on while you cook, and steps with a time have a one-tap countdown.
FAVORITES AND RECENTLY VIEWED
Tap the heart to save a dish. Recipes you've opened are kept in "Recently Viewed," newest first.
TUTORIAL
A short 3-page intro on first launch, plus one tip the first time you visit each screen. Tap "Tutorial" on the home screen to see it again.
ABOUT THE RECIPES
73 dishes, mostly Chinese home cooking such as tomato and egg stir-fry, shredded pork with green peppers, mapo tofu, and cola chicken wings, plus a few pastas, Western soups, and drinks. They're home-style reference recipes, so season to your own taste.
FOUR LANGUAGES
The interface and every recipe are available in English, Español, 简体中文, and 繁體中文. Switch in the app at any time, no restart needed.
PRIVACY
No sign-up, no ads, no in-app purchases. Your menu, shopping list, and favorites stay on your phone. The app works offline and collects no data. See the privacy policy for details.
