About

A painting arrives with pieces missing. From Van Gogh's cypresses, Monet's water lilies, Leonardo's Last Supper, and Klimt's Vienna to the plates of the great natural-history illustrators, each masterpiece is a puzzle waiting to be restored. Set the last piece in place, and the painting tells you its true story, and the story of the artist who made it. Van Gogh painted The Starry Night from an asylum, over a village he could not see from his window, then counted it a setback. Monet, pressed for a title, gave a sunrise the name that named the Impressionism movement. Everyone sees a pregnant bride in Van Eyck's Arnolfini portrait. She is not pregnant, and scholars no longer call it a wedding. Look up toward the ceiling instead: one candle burns, and one has been snuffed out. Every work here has a story like these. Every restored work hangs in your gallery with a short docent's note: what to look at, why it matters, what it meant to the artist, and one thing you probably didn't know. Restore three works by the same hand and you have found the artist: their portrait, their life, and a story revealed by each painting you finished. THE PUZZLES • Four kinds of puzzle: loose pieces, sliding bricks, strips, and jigsaw • Three difficulty levels per puzzle type • No timer, no ads. THE STORIES • 100+ masterpieces from Van Eyck's Ghent in 1432 to Schiele's Vienna in 1917 • New collections, artworks, and artists to be added • True stories, researched work by work from museum records, archives, and the artists' own letters • Real public-domain works from the Met, the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery of Art, and more THE AFTER HOURS PASS The first eight works are free. The After Hours Pass is a one-time purchase that gives you: • Every artwork and collection, and each new one as it opens • Notes inside the stories on the people, places, and details behind them, so you never have to look up a name and break the flow • The stories read aloud in our docent's voice • Any finished work to restore again • Dark mode The first painting is already waiting for you.
